ATTENTION: BOYS ARE DUMB (If it wasn't known already)

Whether you broke up from a three year relationship, or just stopped talking to a guy you met on a dating app, everyone experiences a broken heart in numerous ways. This is usually when we resort to our favorite empowering songs to boost our confidence and realize we are bad female dogs. However, one song in particular speaks volumes in this type of situation. It is simple and straight-up, yet still powerful, excluding the unnecessary metaphors.

The song is (drum roll please)............ "New Rules" by Dua Lipa. Homegirl definitely knows what it is like to go through a heartbreak and bounce back. She has even blessed us with this catchy song to prove she is not an enigma and is here to push us through it. So lets decode some of the most relevant lines, shall we?

1. "I've Got New Rules, I Count 'Em"

Badda bing, badda boom. The relationship, or whatever it was, is over. It is in the past and you are now in the present. There are new rules you follow now as a single lady. It may take some time to get in the swing of things since "He was your true love," but keep repeating these new rules to yourself and you'll be a pro in no-time.

2. "One: Don't Pick Up the Phone. You Know He's Only Calling 'Cause He's Drunk and Alone"

SO ACCURATE THAT IT HURTS. He's not hitting up your Hotline Bling because he misses you and realizes he made a mistake. Sorry not sorry.

3. "Two: Don't Let Him In. You'll Have to Kick Him Out Again"

Girl, why would you do that to yourself? Unless it's for closure or he is actually a good friend of yours now, your conversation is just going to result in endless screaming and saying goodbye again.

4. "Three: Don't Be His Friend. You Know You're Gonna Wake Up In His Bed In the Morning. And If You're Under Him, You Ain't Getting Over Him"

Preach x100. Everyone knows it is EXTREMELY hard to stay friends with your ex, and if you do I respect you so much. But most importantly, lustful tension will overcome platonic friendship, and if you sleep wth him, you will NEVER move on from him.

5. "Practice Makes Perfect. I'm Still Tryna Learn it By Heart"

Once again ladies, it will take time to move past that jerk. Don't feel defeated if you still are upset one month in, it WILL get better. Even Dua Lipa is still learning.

6. "You're Getting Over Him"

Straight to the point, no explanation needed. You WILL get over him girl. In the meantime, drink that lemonade.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
