I Will Never Watch 'Grey’s Anatomy' And Nothing You Can Say Will Sway Me Otherwise

Long, overly dramatic television shows filled with death are not my cup of tea.

Okay, do not get me wrong, Shonda Rhimes is a genius when it comes to creating shows. I am an absolute fanatic of How to Get Away with Murder and Scandal. I watch those shows religiously. But I will never watch Grey's Anatomy and here is why.

First, the show is 15 seasons long. Each season (excluding season one) has 24 episodes and each episode is an average of 40 minutes. Who has time for that? If you do the math, it equals 13 days and 9 hours to watch all of the seasons if you watch it 24 hours a day. As a human, we must sleep, eat, work, go to school, have bathroom breaks etc. – making the binging of this popular TV drama take longer than I am willing to take. I like longer shows sometimes, but even this is too long.

Secondly, everyone seems to love this show. What if I start this show and I fall in love with it? What if I immerse myself completely to the point where I feel like the characters are my friends and family? I do not think I am ready for such an emotional commitment. I have fallen in love with Shonda Rhimes other characters in the past. In Scandal, I look up to Olivia Pope and the drive she has for her work. How to Get Away with Murder made me want to be a lawyer for a minute until I realized how poor of a lawyer I would be. I put myself in their shoes and I am almost a part of their world. I am unsure if I could commit to loving another show at the same level that I love these other two, especially not a long one like this.

Next, the level of drama in this show is ridiculous. Drama can fuel great television shows, but Grey's Anatomy takes it to far sometimes. While I do not watch the show, I have done my research or have been told about some of the dramatic times throughout the show. For example, when Izzie fell in love with Denny and cut his LVAD wire to make him worse in order to be pushed to the top of the transplant list. While it worked, after the transplant he passed away from a stroke. Right when viewers thought things were getting better again, the plot thickened, and he died. Another dramatic Izzie moment would be when she treated a deer. What was that? The amount of trauma and drama in this show is as wild as it gets.

Lastly, everyone on the show dies. Out of the original cast, only a few are left. Of course, Meredith Grey is still involved because the show is called Grey's Anatomy. How Ellen Pompeo is still involved 18 years later is beyond me. So many main characters have passed away including McDreamy himself, Derek Shepard. Replacing a whole cast like this might be a clue for the show to come to an end.

While Grey's Anatomy is a TV fan favorite, it is not the show for me. I think the show is too long, overly dramatic and is filled with a never ended turnover of cast members. All of these reasons combined as made this a show that I will never watch.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
