Many of us, myself included spend too much time doing one thing. Can you guess? That one thing is social media, oversharing and over posting. We have all this open space, and usually, do nothing with it. We don't appreciate it like we should, engage in it like we should. Before it gets too cold, appreciate nature. If you can't find people to join you, just do it yourself.
Day 1: Bonding Over a Fire Pit
I picked up my friend and we drove towards Burlingame State Park in RI for a Men's Fellowship Camping Trip. Prior to arriving, I didn't have lunch so we ended up stopping at Wendy's. I got a spicy chicken sandwich, and sadly, it wasn't really spicy, but enjoyable none the less. On our way up, I noticed a rope course, on the right side of I-95. That gave me an idea for a future date or gathering, whichever comes first. We finally arrive around 7:00 p.m. and it's time to start setting up the tent I was going to sleep in. Honestly, I only did the light work portion of it, because the tent mate seemed to have it together. Once our tent was set, I sat down, chatted with the guys, and eventually had a cheeseburger. By the way... everything on night one was cooked over the fire. I had a cheeseburger with a wheat bun, lettuce, yellow tomatoes, and mustard. (My original tomatoes and top of my bun fell off so I had to get more.) Later, ingredients for smores were put out, and I ending up only making one s'more. Eventually, it was 11 guys in all. Everyone was wondering who was going to go to bed first. It ended up being me...
Day 2: There's Beauty at the End of the Day
I woke up, refreshed, and had to put in a special order for my eggs. (I can eat egg whites, but not the yolk) After it was complete, I had a sweet sausage/spicy sausage sandwich with egg whites... (It was so tasty) After the sandwich, I realized I brought everything I needed except toothpaste, and a toothbrush...thankfully one of my brothers in Christ was on his way to the store and said he could take me to Wal-Mart. (I think this was my first time shopping in RI) Once that was situated, we stopped at Dunkin Donuts, and I got me a tea. We arrived back, and I noticed there was a group playing Frisbee...Since I love Frisbee, I joined them. Eventually, people that came with the group, joined us. A few hours later, some people went fishing, some were chatting, and others were relaxing. Around 5:00 p.m., some people went to the arcade while others stayed back. I was one of the ones that stayed back, and I was glad I did because I saw one of the most beautiful sunsets, I've ever seen.
Prior to seeing this beautiful sunset, I chatted with a girl and found out she was from New Haven as well. It was weird, but cool at the same time.
Day 3: Packing Up and Moving On
It's the final day, and camping was awesome. It was awesome enough to the point where I didn't really want to leave. That morning I ended up seeing the family again, that I played frisbee with, and I spent most of the morning chatting with them. About a half hour after that, my friend and I were on our way back to New Haven.
When you can...make sure you "Get Out" and enjoy what nature has to offer you...
