My Nashville Bucket List

All of those places you keep saying you need to go to...

Travel Thru History

Somehow, the past three years seemed to speed by and I’ve found myself approaching my final year at Vanderbilt. I can’t help but feel sad about this. This school -- this city -- has become my home and without a doubt one of my favorite places in the world. But bad (especially sad) vibes aren’t fun, so instead, I decided that I need to make a bucket list for all of the things I get to look forward to and enjoy one final time.

1. Pedal Tavern

Now that most of us are allowed to drink (legally), the Pedal Tavern is a must. You haven’t really experiences Nashville until you’ve pedaled up and down Broadway, singing songs, waving at tourists and sipping on the drink of your choice. Plus there are a ton of spaces on it so you can bring everyone!

2. Cummins Falls

There is so much more to Tennessee than just the nightlife that you see in downtown Nashville. Cummins Falls is one of the most breathtaking sites in the state. A mild hiking trail that turns into a spectacular waterfall will bring you back to nature and give you perspective. Even if you’re not an outdoorsy person, you don’t want to miss this.

3. Arrington Vineyards

Whether or not you like wine, this is a beautiful place to be. It’s a beautiful Tennessee vineyard with beautiful, green open space. Sit back, snack on some cheese and bread, sip on some wine, and take in the beauty of this unique spot.

4. Loveless Café

Okay, this is extremely embarrassing, but I still haven’t been here. So while I’m sure that most people crossed this off their checklist during freshman year move-in, I still need to go try these infamous biscuits. It’s a bit of a drive from campus considering all of the food places closer to us, but it’s a Tennessee classic. So don’t graduate without at least trying a biscuit.

5. Frist

We have an exceptional art museum that’s entirely free to Vanderbilt students thanks to the Passport to Nashville program! They have rotating exhibits to keep things interesting. Plus the art here is really great. It’s definitely worth a break from studying to check out.

6. Adventure Science Center

So, I know that I’m a huge science nerd, but I am dying to go to this place! Every so often they have adult nights where they sell alcohol, let you virtually look at the stars, and do cool science things that are a little more adult appropriate rather than the typical kids exhibits.

7. Cheekwood Botanical Gardens

These beautiful gardens are absolutely breathtaking. Once you go, you’ll understand why it’s on the list.

8. Predators game

Even if you aren’t as big of a supporter of the greatest sport out there, there’s a chance you’ll see Carrie Underwood since her husband is a crucial member of the team and they love to support each other.

9. Love Circle Hill

If you haven’t seen the sunset from the top of this hill, you’re really missing out. You can see the whole city and let me tell you, it’s stunning. It’s definitely a little bit of a hike to get up there, but it’s worth every step of it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
