I'll just start off by saying I'm an avid Netflix subscriber and Amazon Prime watcher. I'm one of those people that waits for the season to come to Netflix and then binge watch all 15 episodes in one night.
I'm guilty and proud of it.
So this article is dedicated to those heart-wrenching, mind-blowing movies that I could watch everyday for the rest of my life and be completely content with.
1. "Southpaw"
"The more you get hit, the harder you fight." - Maureen Hope
I'll be honest. I avoided this movie like it was the plague because I heard it was a heartbreaking movie. I don't like to cry so I try to avoid anything that might become a tearjerker. Well, this movie had me bawling after the first ten minutes.
It's a love story, but in a different way. It's about family. It's about being true and loyal to not only yourself, but the people who make you, you. The movie is specifically about a father and daughter relationship and what extent the father would go to when trying to gain his daughter's trust.
Now if you read critic reviews, you may be lead away from watching, but in my opinion, those people go into a movie looking for the negatives and the cons of the entire performance. I'm not a critic, but this movie hits home in so many ways for me, mentally and emotionally. And not only is the plot fantastic, the cast is absolutely amazing
2. "The Case for Christ"
"My worldview, my philosophy, my attitudes, my relationships, my parenting, my marriage - everything has been transformed by my relationship with Christ." - Lee Strobel
This is an inspirational movie that had me glued to the television.
In short, it's about an atheist who comes to know and love Christ by trying to prove He isn't real. How mind-boggling is that? He was a journalist who went all over the world to try and disprove the existence of Christ when, in reality, he was growing closer to Him through learning the truth.
What makes this story even more relating and incredible is that it is based on a true story.
I won't spoil it for you by going into all the nitty-gritty details about what happens along the way and what the outcome is like, but if you are skeptical of any part of God and what He's done and His story for us, this movie will get your mind wondering and, hopefully, intrigue you enough to where you will go out and do your own research on the mountain effect that the Lord has set right in front of our eyes.
3. "Rocky"
"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done." - Rocky Balboa
Talk about a classic. With my generation, it's completely underrated which is so sad because it's absolutely incredible. I don't think I have to go in complete details about the plot of the movies because if you don't know at least the basics, you've been living under a rock.
Rocky Balboa, the man himself, taught me a lot about life, about stamina, and about endurance; mentally, physically, and emotionally.
What's interesting about these movies is that Sylvester Stallone, Rocky Balboa, wrote and starred in the movies when he wasn't originally supposed to due to him being considered an "unknown headline."
Random fact alert; Sylvester wrote the entire script in just three and a half days after watching the fight between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner.
All in all, I'm honored and ecstatic to have these movies on my shelf. And to anyone who's my age, you're doing yourself an injustice by not watching and appreciating these movies.
