Even from a young age, I knew that I was bitten by the travel bug. Given that chance, I would travel anywhere and everywhere I can. I want to experience new places, new cultures, and new people. What better way to do that than packing up a suitcase and getting out the door, or even out of the country. So here are four of my top places where I want to visit in my life.
First up on my list is to visit Ireland (some days I pair it with Scotland.) Ever seen a castle? Well, there are multiple that you can see while in Ireland such as the Blarney Castle. Climb ten flights of stairs to reach the Blarney Stone, lie down backwards, reach out upside down, and kiss it, and legend says you’ll be able to speak in such a way that people will want to listen to you.
Another must see in Ireland are the Cliffs of Moher. These cliffs are about 120 meters above the ocean and it pretty much a straight drop off. These cliffs get their name form an old fort that used to be at the southernmost point of the cliffs. As for Scotland, who would not want to visit Loch Ness at least once in their lives? Like Ireland, Scotland has many castles open to the public and some interesting geologic formations and features, such as Arthur’s seat. Arthur’s seat if the main peak of a group of hills in Edinburgh.
Next on my list is Australia. For someone who enjoys music a trip to the Sydney Opera House would not be out of the question. Even if you’re just interested in the architecture of the building, a visit is a must. Australia is known for the beauty of the reefs, and a dive into the Great Barrier Reef would definitely be at the top of my list during a visit. Of course, being around people with Australian accents would never get old, yes, my Siri is an Australian male, judge me, but there are so many things going for Australia I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t want to visit.
My next location has been one of my top five since the seventh grade. My global studies teacher showed my class a video of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and I fell in love. I’ve never even seen Niagara Falls, but I’m sure they pale in comparison. Not only are the falls considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world, but you can sit right next to the edge at certain times during the year. This spot has been labeled the Devils Pool and you the ledge you can sit on has been names the Devils Armchair. Just thinking about that 100-meter drop sounds exhilarating.
My last spot has been a recent discovery. I have started backpacking, and want to get out of the Midwest. Where else would I want to go than Italy? The Cinque Terre in Italy consists of five towns in between trails, and for those who the idea of hiking sounds like death there are boats and busses that take you to the same destinations, but with my newfound love of backpacking, I want this experience. You move from town to town each day and stay in hostels with everything you could need on your back.
I want to travel everywhere, but these four places are ones that have been a consistent desire for as long as I can remember. My list grows year after year, and I can’t wait to get the chance to start my journey around the world.
