An Unpopular Opinion on Animal Testing

Testing products on animals has always been a controversy. The question is: which animals are being tested on?

When dogs are being tested on, it’s the worst thing humans can do, but when a rodent is tested on, no one bats an eye. I’m not defending rats in the case that rats shouldn’t be tested on either; I’m saying the animal shouldn’t matter.

The fact of the matter is that the product could not be tested at all and you could be the first to try it. You don’t want that, do you? Yeah, I didn’t think so. I would rather have it tested on animals way before it touches my face.

It is safer to test these products in general before allowing consumers to have a go. The companies don’t want to be sued by you because they didn’t test the products properly in the first place.

This article has some good points, but also had some that made me shake my head a little.

So, there are cruelty free ways to test these products... that’s awesome!

These companies make their products with their revenue and are going to continue to do whatever they feel necessary and best for their company to succeed.

It’s kind of like the McDonald's fiasco. So many people complained about McDonald’s being so unhealthy and gross, saying things like, “What’s it even made out of?” People still eat it. People still pay for it. People will always make their own choices, and these are big brands, so they won’t go bankrupt because you didn’t buy the one lipstick from Mary Kay.

Reese Witherspoon’s python bag is what made me shake my head, though. The thing is already dead and she probably paid a chunk of change for that. It’s not like you’re the president of the "save the pythons" club at school.

As I was reading some comments, I came across this gem: “Then I say let them test them on the chemists who develop the products in the first place. I mean, if they’re so “safe” and all, what’s the worry?”

Why punish the creators just because you’re mad? They get paid to do that; they get paid to make these products safe for your ugly ass to use. With that logic, I say test on you!

There are random strangers who think their opinion is as good as God’s who say things like, “I ask all people to stand together and stop using these products.” Then there's me, a realist yet optimistic; I say to you, “I suggest you look into all the products in your home that test on animals. I can tell you right now, most of them do. Boycott those too while you’re at it.”

I suggest we test on prisoners. Life sentenced and/or death row inmates. They shouldn’t have a choice on the matter. To pay for their medical expenses, tax them.

I am honestly not concerned about the testing on animals because it could be you being blinded or a rash-causing product on your face or body. People are just upset because of the fact it’s on a dog as opposed to a rodent. Would you be complaining about it as much if it were raccoon laying on that table?

Probably not.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
