(1990) Beautifully filmed the mid-to-late 1980s, documentary reveals the community of New York's minority drag queens, gay black and Latino men who cross dress as women and invent the dance style of “voguing."

(2006) Traces the roots of techno music and, surprisingly, finds its early beginnings in Detroit. You can enjoy in interviews with techno’s creators - Atkins, May and Saunderson - there’s input and anecdotes from Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Carl Craig, Eddie Fowlkes, Kenny Larkin, Matthew Dear and many more.

8. From Jack to Juke: 25 Years of Ghetto House

(2012) Chicago was the birthplace of house music as we know it. But Chicago house also gave birth to juke. This great documentary explains the history of “jack,” “juke,” “booty,” and “ghetto” with DJ Gant-Man, DJ Superman, DJ V-Dub, and plenty of others.

9. Oldschool renegades


(2013) Is a tale about how techno culture invented and discovered musicians with a penchant for synth sounds and made them one-hit wonders or let chance have its way as with Moby, who had his breakthrough with his Twin Peaks-like sample song 'Go'. 10. Industrial Soundtracks to Urban Decay

(2015) Traces the origins of Industrial music, taking you on a journey through the crumbling industrial cities of Europe to America's thriving avant-garde scene.
