What does music mean to me?
Have you ever heard the saying, "when words fail, music speaks?" You have? Well, that's just it.
Music is an escape, like time travel or shape-shifting. A helping hand. Music is happiness and sadness and rage and fear and envy. Every emotion in the book. It's vulnerable and free, but bold. It has that ideal balance, the balance that causes discussion and lacking argument. Meaningful discussion. Music is universal; it seems that there's a song written for everything and everyone. Similar to a subconscious togetherness, music is never lonely. Again, it's unity. Music is beautiful. Flawless and golden, however imperfect. A perfectly imperfect piece of craft. Music is timeless. Oh, how timeless.
Obviously, music is your favorite songs and your favorite artists. In my case, Bohemian Rhapsody. Taylor Swift. Michael Jackson. I'm the biggest Sabrina Carpenter fan you will ever come across, and I have an abnormally excessive collection of Broadway original cast recording and soundtrack albums. La La Land and Grease. The Phantom of the Opera and Dear Evan Hansen. Lin Manuel Miranda's Hamilton. I hate Z100's hit list, and I'm the single teenager of my generation that listens to 106.7's lovely Delilah, New York's Variety!
Music is my best friend. Picture every dance party, every road trip, every concert. Every karaoke session, every personal performance, and every viewing. Every possible memory. Who is it you see? I see family. Music is family.
Music communicates like no other. Its language puts book smarts to shame. Screw standardized tests. Now, let's help discover the creatives and the dreamers. The people that feel hopeless, the people that are so unbelievably lost. That rare bunch of old souls, the people with their head in the clouds.
What does music mean to me? Well.
Have you ever heard the saying "music on, world off?" You have? Then I presume I can speak for both of us here: Don't EVER try to talk to me when my earphones are intact. Chances are, you are interrupting something very important and eventful. Music is passion. Your heart and soul, it is. It's you. After all, you are what you listen to.
Music, I love you. Although you're dramatically changing, you are still good. Don't let the future rid of that. You are art.
I love music. Music is love, music is life.
