Many people have the opportunity to live near the mountains or near the beach. The beauty from both of these areas is radiant. The amount of peace you can find in them is outstanding. But some people have the blessing of living in both. This can occur in many instances. For one, you could live in California, where the mountains meet the ocean. In my case, I live at the beach and go to college in the mountains. To me, home is the beautiful beaches of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. But school is the wondrous mountains of Greenville, South Carolina. Although they are in the same state, they have many different things to offer.

When living in the mountains, you have tons of places to explore. Mountains hold an abundance of hidden adventures. The amount of hiking trails you can go on is endless. And after each hike is a great reward. Usually, you hike to the top of the mountain, and once you’re there the view is breathtaking. Then sometimes you hike to waterfalls. One time my friends and I hike to this place called Triple Falls. We stopped at the first waterfall to take a dip in the water. For some reason, the bottom of where we were swimming was very slippery. We were all sliding around and having the time of our lives. Once we were done swimming, we hiked to the second waterfall. We took pictures and admired the beauty, but we were all excited to get to the third waterfall. At the third waterfall was a huge 90-foot natural rock slide. As always, the daring boys slid first as us girls tried to get the fear out of our minds. We finally went, and it was amazing! The thrill of sliding down the rock then landing in the cold chilling water was unreal. It gives you a burst of adrenaline and energy. It was one crazy adventure that you can’t have at the beach.

When living at the beach, you have the peaceful noise of waves crashing. During the summer, you have the fun opportunity to relax and enjoy what the beach has to offer. For kids, it’s a thrill to play in the sand a build huge sand castle while randomly jumping in the ocean to cool off. For older people, it’s a thrill to just lay out and sunbathe. Soon the noise of the waves will send them into a perfect nap. When you think about it the beach offers three things: sun, sand, and water. But somehow those three things can entertain people of all ages for hours.

During the summer, I work at a company called Shoreline Watersports. We are located right on the beach. I see a lot during my days of work but there is one man I will never forget. He walked up onto our ramp and didn’t say a word to us, he was just staring at the ocean. A minute goes by and I asked him if I could help him with anything. He simply replied with a no then told me this was his first time ever seeing the ocean. Being someone who lives at the beach I was shocked when he said that. But then I realized, not everyone is as blessed to live in such a beautiful place. And to have the luxury of living in two completely different beautiful places is amazing. Take advantage of the beauty this world has to offer. Find an adventure and go on it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
