I'm sure you have heard and seen many reviews on the new Marvel movie "Black Panther". Well, here is one more to convince you to see it if you haven't already. I recently went to see the groundbreaking breaking film and left very satisfied. I am not big on superhero movies, but with all of the hype surrounding the movie I had to give it a chance. I will do my best to try to avoid spoilers, but here are five reasons why "Black Panther" is the movie of the year.
1. The Black excellence.
The amount of black excellence that is in this film is unreal. The film is set in a fictional African country called "Wakanda". The clothes, people, and the culture that it portrays is very authentic African culture. Majority of the cast is African American and plays their role very well. The director, Ryan Coolger, is also African American! See? Black excellence all around.
2. ALL of the strong female characters.
The women of "Wakanda" are not only beautiful, but they are strong and fearless. The roles for the main women in the cast are no damsel in distress roles (unlike some superhero movies). They are warriors, spies and scientists. Without the help of the women in this movie, the black panther would be hopeless.
3. The eye candy.
Michael B. Jordan is all types of fine! He plays Erik Killmonger who is sort of the villain in the film. I will not give away to much information, but just know he looks GOOD! He plays his role so well, but you can't hate him because first off he has a point, and two he's just really good looking. The main character is also easy on the eyes.
4. It still has modern issues.
Although "Black Panther" is a fictional film set in a fictional place it still includes modern day problems. The film touches on the oppression of African Americans. Even though "Wakanda" is sort of the black utopia the outside world still faces reality.
5. It's different Than Other Marvel Films
The superhero is black, which I have never seen in any other Marvel film. The plot, scenery and creativity is impeccable. The movie kept me intrigued which is very rare for a superhero movie because I usually end up falling asleep.
"Black Panther" brought in over $242 million over the President's Day weekend, which is also the second highest opening behind "Star Wars: The Force Awakens". The movie includes a little comedy, action, love and drama. The movie definitely sets the bar for other movies coming 2018, and other Marvel movies in the making. So grab a friend, a lover, your family or just take yourself to see "Black Panther". If you have seen it already go again! I definitely am!
