I Became A Mormon After Watching YouTube Videos And Seeing The Light

It all started with YouTube. Yes, YouTube was one of the main instigators to me becoming a Mormon. I am constantly watching family vloggers, and all of them had something in common. They were all Mormon. It really hit me when one of their sons left for a two-year mission to France, so I started my own research to find out for myself what they all believe.

I watched YouTube videos, read blog posts, watched movies, and read a lot of stuff on the church's website. I truly was investigating the church on my own. I learned a lot by myself, and I think that really solidifies my testimony of knowing that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true.

After a couple of months of doing my own research, a pair of missionaries stopped by my sister's apartment and talked to her about the Book of Mormon and gave her a copy of it. She knew that I was highly interested in the church, so she passed it along to me. I then started reading it and learning even more. I truly think that Heavenly Father played a role in this.

After a lot of personal research, I decided to go to mormon.org and talk to some missionaries online. I talked to two sister missionaries and asked them about the golden plates that Joseph Smith found. They were super helpful, and I am still in touch with the missionary that I talked to that day.

I gave them my contact information, and they passed it along to the sister missionaries in my area. I started texted with the sisters, and it turns out that elders were actually over my area. I was kind of mortified. I did not feel as comfortable meeting with elders, because sisters are a lot easier for me to relate to. The elders tried to contact me for a couple of months, and I ignored them the whole time.

Then a new trio of sister missionaries came into the picture. They called me three times before I finally responded in October. We met for ice cream and started having our own lessons twice a week. I went to church the first week that I met with them, and I have not missed sacrament since then.

The sisters asked me to pray about the Book of Mormon, and ask Heavenly Father if it is not true. I prayed about it, and I did receive answers. A lot of the time I would feel my stomach being pulled, and it was honestly unreal. I still just was not very convinced though, and I was struggling a lot with accepting my answer in fear of what people would think about me if I did decide to convert.

One night changed everything, though. I had been debating on leaving my sorority for a couple of months, and I had a meeting scheduled to talk about potentially leaving. I was still on the fence about it, because I didn't want to make the wrong decision. The night before my meeting, I prayed to Heavenly Father and asked for an answer. I prayed to know if I should leave the sorority. Then, as I was laying in bed, I got a prompting to go to Alma 7 in the Book of Mormon.

Alma 7:15 states: "Yea, I say unto you come and fear not, and lay aside every sin, which easily doth beset you, which doth bind you down to destruction, yea, come and go forth, and show unto your God that ye are willing to repent of your sins and enter into a covenant with him to keep his commandments, and witness it unto him this day by going into the waters of baptism."

I knew right then what I needed to do. I needed to leave my sorority, strengthen my relationship with Heavenly Father, and get baptized. It was an answer to my prayers. Heavenly Father does listen, and he does answer.

After I got that prompting I left my sorority, continued going to church, read my scriptures, set a baptism date, and was baptized on December 1st.

This all came at a time when I was lonely and confused. I was thinking about transferring colleges, and I didn't know what to do about the sorority. Heavenly Father knew that I needed Him at that moment, and He showed me the right way. He showed me that I am loved, and that if I make these covenants I can live a happy life.

I feel such a sense of belonging after joining the church. I know that everyone there cares about me, and I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love me. There is no doubt about that in my mind.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
