9 Quotes To Get You Through Finals Week
Mikhail Pavstyuk

PREPARE YOURSELVES, FINALS ARE NEAR. Finals week certainly sucks, but I believe that anyone who has enough confidence can make it through the week. It’s the week we dread and love the most because it means that we need to take huge exams, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, because it also means that a break is coming.

“Keep Calm & Carry On”

I know, this is one of the biggest cliches, but it’s true. You just need to take a deep breathe. You will get through it. Carrying on doesn’t just mean to make it through the week, it means to have the confidence that you will achieve your goals.

“May the odds be ever in your favor.” - Hunger Games

For those who feel completely unprepared. Or even for those who believe in the meme version “May the curve be ever in your favor.” You follow whatever quote will get you through your finals with the least amount of tears.

“Do or do not, there is no try.” - Yoda

This is for my Star Wars fans. Yoda was one of the wisest characters created and always had good advice when Luke needed it. This tells you that you can only do what you can do, you can’t try to do things that you don’t know how to.

“Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.” - Dory

Another cliche quote, but it’s true. We just need to hold on and make it through this awful week.

“What’s coming will come & we’ll meet it when it does.” - Hagrid

Let’s face it. Every semester we know the finals are coming. Despite this knowledge, we always tend to push our assignments and studying off. By the time finals week comes, it hits us that we actually need to recall of the information we were given through the entire semester.

“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or objects.” - Albert Einstein

This reminds us how people and classes aren’t what makes us happy. Achieving our goals is what will make our lives happy. Getting through finals will help us to get closer to our goals and living out our dreams. YOU CAN DO IT.

“Intelligence without ambition is like a bird without wings.” - Salvador Dali

Dali certainly got this one right. If you have no ambition, there is nowhere for you to apply your intelligence and all that you have learned.

“You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” - Oscar Wilde

In one of my classes my first semester of sophomore year, I heard one of my classmates say “Dress well, test well.” I became a strong believer in this saying and began dressing nice on the days that I had exams. Dressing well improves your self confidence, which makes you believe in yourself and realize that you can do it. Over-studying is never a bad thing, granted if you cram it will not help you at all. Just study and believe in yourself.

“When you think about giving up, think about why you’ve held on for so long.”

This quote was one that my brother said to me a few days ago and I’m not sure where it came from. It truly is one of the most inspiring quotes I’ve heard in awhile. We need to remember our goals and why we are going through college. We need to remember what we want to do afterwards. We need to remember how we want to change the world.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
