It so so important that people reach out to foreign cultures and learn about what makes that society the way it is. Marist College recently had an event called Mon Afrique which is an annual cultural education event. Every year there is a theme and a few African countries chosen to education the attendees of. This year, the theme was "The Gift" and viewers got to see a typical African bride and groom and the gifts that would be given in countries such as Rwanda, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Ghana. The celebration also included a fashion show depicting African fashion, an African dance, African food, and African music.
You may wonder why this event is so special. Well initially, the event was funded and ran by only students. The students from Africa really wanted to educate their fellow classmates about African culture. Over the years, it has received school funding and has been opened to the public for attendance.
