The holidays are my favorite time of year. Putting up decorations is a ton of fun, and there's nothing I love more than Christmas and singing Christmas songs. However, one thing I learned is that it's incredibly easy to mix your love for the holidays with your love for everything fandom-related. Almost every TV show has a Christmas special, your friends know what to get you for Christmas because it's all you ever talk about, and now any fandom shirt can be a Christmas sweater if you put your heart to it. It's almost too easy to mix in fandom and Christmas cheer, so where do you start? Here are a few ways you can be a festive fangirl and display your cheer for the holiday season.
1. Watch your favorite holiday specials
Remember how I stated that almost every TV show has a holiday special? It's true. My favorite show right now, "Doctor Who", actually has multiple Christmas specials that usually begin each season. One of my favorite things to do before Christmas is to dedicate a day to marathoning my favorite Christmas movies and my favorite Christmas specials, too. More often than not, many of the TV holiday specials have the same meaning as classic Christmas movies. More often than not, I'm left with more love for my favorite actors, but also that warm feeling in my heart that only comes with the holiday season.
2. Find fandom holiday decoration
When it's the month of December, there's nothing I love more than decorating my apartment with Christmas decorations. However, it's also fun because I can find tons of themed decorations surrounding my favorite shows, whether it be the TARDIS from "Doctor Who" or the Impala from "Supernatural." It's a fun way to casually mesh your favorite items and characters with your favorite holiday decorations. It's also fun to play around with an Elf on the Shelf, and many articles have shown creative ways to mess with your Elf using fandom characters and icons. This is an amazing way to remind everyone that you love your favorite TV shows/movies and your favorite holiday as well.
A few weeks ago, I went shopping for an ugly holiday sweater and while I didn't intend to buy anything fandom-related, I ended up finding an adorable Captain America sweatshirt that was on sale and would work perfectly for the party I was going to that night. What's the point of this mid-article story? I realized it is as much fun to wear a sweater with holiday and fandom cheer, as it is to wear an ugly fandom holiday sweater. After all, what's cuter than seeing a Dalek wearing a Santa hat? Or seeing snowflakes around Captain America's shield? They have ugly holiday sweaters for everything now, from memes to even political candidates. This is the easiest way to be a festive fangirl at any holiday party.
Being a fangirl is fun, and with the cheer that comes with the holiday season it's even easier to mix the fun of fangirling with the love that comes with the holiday season. Go be a festive fangirl, and celebrate the holidays in ways that combine everything amazing into one month.
