People always say that they don't know how to be fashionable. I almost always get asked the infamous question of, "How can I be fashionable?" Not to say that I'm a fashionista, but I think that I dress pretty neatly. If anything, I'm a minimalist. Minimalistic fashion is basically a very simple and basic fashion style. So for anyone who's wondering what I have in my closet or how I look clean or fashionable every day, here's a list of fashion essentials everyone should have:
- T-shirts. At least one in each of the following colors: black, white, grey. If you're feeling fancy, maybe throw in navy, maroon, and army green. By having shirts that are all relatively neutral colored, you can match said shirts with any bottoms or jackets.
- Tank tops. This is more necessary for the summer seasons, but it's good to have a couple of tank tops for the summer heat. The colors of these should be neutral as well.
- Sweaters. This is more necessary for the colder seasons. A couple of sweaters in the neutral color family will be the base of your outfits in the winter/fall. Basically, replace T-shirts with sweaters once the weather gets cold.
- Jeans. One pair that's blue and another in black. Why jeans? Mostly because I don't really know anyone who wears dress pants or formal pants anymore, so we're going to stick with jeans. Jeans are versatile and rugged, and they come in a variety of colors/fits. They suit the average college student very handsomely so jeans are a must.
- Shoes. Specifically one pair of nice sneakers, a pair of workout sneakers, and a pair of boots. The sneakers are for everyday weather. The workout sneakers are for your workout days/lazy days. And lastly, the boots are for fall/winter time. Easy peasy, right?
- Coats/Jackets. This is where you can ball out a little bit. Preferably have five jackets. A zip-up, denim, leather, trench, and winter coat/jacket. It's good to have one zip-up jacket. You know, a jacket for when you get cold in a lecture or whatever. Denim is for that in-between weather when you don't know if it'll be too hot or cold, but still, want to wear a jacket. Leather is also good for that in-between weather. Trench coats are perfect for fall and for rain. And winter coats are for the cold, harsh winters on campus.
- *Optional* Accessories. Accessories aren't really necessary, nor do they abide by my rules of being a minimalist, but this is where you can really elevate an outfit. If you put on a nice belt or a hat, it could take a normal outfit to another level up. Perhaps throw some jewelry on or maybe even some makeup. These little things will make your outfit look even better and more fashionable, but again, they are not necessary.
The fall season is here which means that fall fashion is here right now. Take advantage of the nice weather and environment to switch up your look! Maybe try minimalist fashion, who knows, it just might grow on you. The convenience of being able to match any top with any bottom is really a huge plus for me in the mornings and saving money on clothing is also nice.
