The echoed lyrics that make her face light up in elation greet her ears like an old friend. Her laughter embraces the entire arena as she cannot believe that so many people have grasped the art that she attempts to create.

Eyes sparkling, voice producing wonderful melodies, she saunters like a queen towards her rightful throne. She is an icon. She is a soldier in the war for more equality. She is a unique songstress with a voice like no other.

She is Miley Cyrus.

And she is my hero.

A hero is an individual that is admired for the achievements they have acquired and for the noble qualities that they possess.

They are the beings that are held up to higher standards than those beneath them.

These are the people who exhibit the stature of influence that so many more want to acquire in their lifetimes.

Miley Cyrus is my hero because of her perpetual compassion for those who have been abandoned by the ones they needed most. From the wealth that she has gained from her hit TV show, “Hannah Montana”, she has almost donated half of it to dozens of charities. Cyrus helps the less fortunate with no expectations that she will get a gift in return.

Furthermore, she has recently formed her own charity named the Happy Hippie Foundation whose main goal is to find ways to shelter the homeless youth of the United States of America while providing protection especially to the adolescents of the LGBT community.

To have the desire to donate large sums of the money one has rightfully earned to various charities is a quality worth looking up to. She even donated all of the profits from her single, "Inspired", to the Happy Hippie Foundation instead of pocketing the money for her own personal use.

This popular artist is unafraid of giving to those in need and that in itself is an admirable action that I would like to aspire to do more often.

Since her first days in the starlight, Miley Cyrus has faced adversity in the face of people not liking her not just because of her music, but because of who she is as a person.

But as she has grown up in the world of fame, she has grown to shrug off the insults and hatred directed at her and has still maintained her sense of self and continues to do what she wants to do—not what others expect her to do.

In today's world, this is an admirable trait because so many people care about what others think of them, but here we have an inspiring woman who has no qualms about caring for the comments of those against her.

This is truthfully why she is my hero because self-confidence has been an aspect I have been chasing for so long that some days I might find it while others I do not.

Finally, I want to create art in the form of books without fear of being forced to listen to the demands of readers and publishers, and instead of being able to create the stories that I want to.

Miley Cyrus has taught me that art is in the hands of its creators—it can only be decided upon by its maker and should only be valued by the lovers of it.

The icon that is Miley Cyrus has proven to be a humanitarian with a creative fire that cannot be quelled by the rules of others.

Many people overlook all the amazing acts she condones because of how much the media exaggerates her outlandish performances compared to how little coverage there is in her quest to making a positive difference in the world.

This journey of hers is seen in her contributions to the Art For Freedom initiative where she celebrates free speech and protests the age old institute of global discrimination to her showcasing the pursuit of scientists to protect the wolves of British Columbia as she calls to her fans to likewise pay attention.

While Miley Cyrus certainly stirs controversy, her progression into adulthood deserves more respect than the shaming she has received. Not only has she become a treasured hero of mine, but has also become a role model to the world. Her voice and music are amazing, and the ways in which she utilizes both assets benefit the world.

She is my hero because she chooses to not abandon those in need as so many do, but instead takes the path of supporting the underdog.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
