In middle school I definitely did not have a very unified or developed music taste, and was influenced by everything around me, with no idea what I actually liked the most or of what type of music was most me. But I guess that's just what being in middle school is. Now I love my varied music taste, (it's much more varied now) and relate to everything I listen to in a different way. In middle school I relied on my Mom's tiny pink iPod and her downloaded music, which led to my love of many songs that my parents also loved. Of course I also enjoyed the pop music of my time, and spent a fairly large amount of money adding these songs to my own iPod that my sister and I were eventually gifted for Christmas.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
