It’s that time of the year again. The leaves are changing, the weather is getting colder, and the days are getting shorter, fall is here. There are many reasons to love fall, from getting to wear sweaters again to everything pumpkin spice, the list is seemingly endless. It’s hard to fit everything unique to this season in these fleeting months filled with midterms and holidays, but here is a list of ways to make the most of fall.

  1. Wear those sweaters and scarves! Is there a slight chill in the air? Did the weather drop a degree or two? Put on a sweater! If you’re anything like me you have a ton of sweaters and scarves that during every other season of the year just take up space in your closet. Now is the time to go sweater overboard! Those sweaters have been neglected during the spring and summer, love them up a little.
  2. Try everything fall flavored! Come fall, there is literally a pumpkin spice everything. Try it all! Pumpkin spice latte? Pumpkin spice muffins? Pumpkin spice candle? Pumpkin spice soap? Try it! Don’t forget about all the other wonderful flavors and smells of the season, apple cinnamon and cranberry are just as delectable. In fact, make it a game. Keep a running list of everything fall flavored you’ve had/tried and compare with your friends, whoever wins buys everyone else something fall flavored.
  3. Get outdoors! Fall foliage is too beautiful to admire from the indoors. Go for a walk around the neighborhood, go for a hike in the mountains, go camping, ride your bike to work. It doesn’t matter how you do it, just do it! Go to a pumpkin patch or a farmers market. If you’re in for a fright go to a haunted house.
  4. Watch fall movies! There are so many lists of movies that are fall themed or are set in the fall or mention the word fall so watch them all. My personal favorite is ‘It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown’, but if you’re looking for something else check out this list.
  5. Share your fall fun with others! Most everything is better when you share it with others, so don’t hog all the fall fun to yourself. Invite an old friend to a pumpkin patch, or a new friend to get pumpkin spice lattes. The weather might be getting colder but the mood is warm. The warmth of a flickering flame, the reds and yellows of the leaves, and the way that cinnamon spice embraces you like a warm hug… share it with others.

Happy Fall!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
