Ah, winter. In Madison. Winter is terrible, at best. For long stretches of time, we go through being cold and simply walking to class as fast as we can so our legs don't freeze through our skinny jeans. However, there are things, believe it or not, that you can do to make your winter in Madison tolerable. Get out and enjoy the weather!
1. Walk on Lake Mendota and be basic
I don't love this one, but the people do. Lake Mendota seems to be the perfect activity for those who don't want to be super adventurous but have the ability to look adventurous by walking out on Lake Mendota and taking some good, basic pictures along the way. Don't fall in though, or your basic picture will be the next feature on Barstool.
2. Sled down Bascom Hill
This is a pretty neat activity for whenever snow tends to fall, which can be at extremely varying times. Bascom is a popular destination for those who want to steal a tray from the nearest dining hall and go for a slide to the bottom of the big hill. Have fun, and don't die.
3. Ice skate at the Edgewater
Though it's a bit of a hike, this is fun to do, and its right on the lake. It's under $10 and the fun that comes along with it makes it more than worth it.
4. Build a snowman
This is simple, yet elegant. While it may seem childish, this activity can be surprisingly fun with your college peers, especially since you're big enough to make massive snow figures. The things about it, is that (obviously) snow is everywhere, and so you can do this literally anywhere on, or off campus, and have fun however you do it.
5. Stay inside and "admire" the snow from afar
This is my personal favorite, for those who don't want to embrace winter in the slightest. There's nothing quite like getting home from class, grabbing a cup of coffee (or whatever you prefer) throwing on The Office as you make your way through the series for the fifth time and choosing to literally not care about anything outside. It's efficient for not only forgetting about winter but forgetting about homework and studying. Yay!
