Yes, I Love My Job At My Campus Library Despite What You Would Expect

And it's not for the reasons you think or for my career path.

I love my job at my campus' library. It is one of the best and most beneficial occurrences to happen to me.

I started my employment at the Thomas Cooper Library at the beginning of my sophomore year. My parents told me I needed to get a job since I have never worked before due to playing multiple sports in high school all through the school year. Then, I had my freshman year as an adjustment period. I decided to apply to the library on campus since I'm an English major and a bibliophile. It seemed like the perfect match.

However, I got an interview to work in the Technology Lounge, nowhere near books or your typical library resources.

I love the position for this library job. I don't love it for the technology I'm surrounded by or what I am technically being paid to do, but I love it for purely being able to work in a library and the environment I am in.

It's a desk job where I get paid to study, do homework and watch Netflix in one of the prime spots in the library.

I mean, it's quiet because it's a library. I sit at a large desk behind computers, so I always have a place to sit in the library with an Ethernet cable internet connection to catch up on shows or do research for a paper.

All the patrons who are in the Technology Lounge, for the most part, are completely sucked into their own schoolwork and rarely need help working a computer. Essentially I point students in the right direction and check-out computer lab equipment, such as laptops, chargers and headphones.

Did I mention? I get to sit down the whole time.

It's also really great that we submit our availability to my boss based on our class schedules with our preferred hours, so I have prearranged study time already carved into my day during the semester.

Being an English major, I have tons of papers to write and novels to read. This part-time campus job is the perfect opportunity to get this bulk of homework done. I literally have to sit down and focus for a specified amount of hours. It's really nice.

I choose to do schoolwork while working since I am already in the library, the ideal study atmosphere, and I want to feel productive. On the other hand, it could be used as free time as well. I like to watch Netflix if I complete necessary assignments due soon or work on weekends.

Basically, I'm paid to study and watch Netflix; a college student's ultimate job.

Working in the Thomas Cooper Library's Technology Lounge, it has truly been advantageous to my college experience. It is one of the satisfying parts of my day because it allows me to sit down and concentrate on all the necessary items on my to-do list. I start by checking my emails and Blackboard to write down all important dates and assignments. It gets me organized and typically a little bit ahead of my classmates.

My job makes me be the most productive I can possibly be. And, it does help that I get to sharpen my basic tech skills as well; another add-on to my resume.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
