Living in areas of the country that actually get snow, it's easy to love it. But it's sometimes easier to hate it. It's cold, it's gray a majority of the time, your nose is always red like Rudolph (or maybe that's just me), and when the snow melts, it's ugly. But on the plus side, it's fun!! Snowmen, snowball fights, snow angels, winter sports, hot cocoa by a fire, cute Instagram photo opportunities, etc. . . Snow and I have a love/hate relationship, and maybe you'll be able to relate. If you are from a place that gets no frozen fairy dust from the sky, maybe this will enlighten you on what it's like to live in a place when you can't escape it.
Love: The first snow!
Hate: The third snow. . .
Love: When there's enough snow on the ground to feel that crunch under your feet.
Hate: When the snow doesn't stop and it's up to your knee and you're getting the hardest legwork out of your year.
Love: When you're the first one on the road after a light snow.
Hate: When you're the 60th person on the road and the road has become your ice rink.
Love: When you can take your nephews and nieces outside and they stay entertained for hours!
Hate: When they come back in and have to strip off their outside layers and cry that they can't feel their toes.
Love: When you look outside and it's sunny and all you can see is snow.
Hate: When all you can see is snow and you begin to feel claustrophobic.
Love: Days when you have to stay in because of too much snow.
Hate: When it's the third day in a row and you are still stuck in the house because there is too much snow.
Love: When you finally see sunlight.
Love: When you see the ground again!
Hate: That there's dirty slush EVERYWHERE.
HATE: Forget giving your car a wash . . . why waste your money when it'll be dirty in 30 seconds?
Love, Love, LOVE: The moments when the kids get together for a movie night in matching pj's and get some much-needed rest from a long day on the hills.
Though you may not have such a love/hate relationship with snow as I do . . . Maybe you live in a state that gets none at all, I hope this article brought you a little bit of joy this season. Remember that snow tires are your friends as well as slowing down when the water on the road freezes. Take it from personal experience, black ice is definitely not you or your car's friend! So take it easy and have grace for others on the road. Give yourself some extra time to get to work in case of accidents and traffic. And be kind to one another this holiday season. Surround yourself with family and friends who make you laugh, lift you up, encourage you, and support you. Tis the season my friends!
