There are two types of people in this world: people who love celebrating their birthday, and people who would rather pretend it didn't exist. I definitely fit into the group that loves to celebrate. I am also the type of girl who considers her birthday a national holiday. If we are being honest, I love being the center of attention on MY day.
Some may argue that me saying that makes me sound a bit self-centered. For that one day a year? Hell yes, I'm self-centered. I have every right to be, as does every other person in this world on their birthday. You're celebrating the year you were brought into this world, you have a right to make a big deal out of it.
I absolutely love making a huge deal out of my day of birth. I love planning big celebrations whether it be nights out or a party. Yes, I said night(s). I am that girl that can't celebrate her birthday for only one day. I make a weekend out of it, sometimes even a week. Celebrating the week of your birth is so a thing.
No, I'm not sorry.
Life is too damn short to not appreciate the fun things. It's your special day, be self-centered for a few moments. Everyone loves to get a little attention here and there, and if someone says they don't, they're lying. It's nice to get kind messages from others wishing you a happy birthday. It shows that there really are people out there who give a sh*t, even if it's something as small as a text message.
Why do I love my birthday so much? For reasons just like that, the messages, calls, and hugs. I, like many other people, can sometimes feel like I'm alone. I feel like if I was gone tomorrow, no one would notice or even care. Then my birthday comes along, and I get dozens of Facebook posts, text messages, and calls that make me realize that people truly do care. It's just that sometimes life gets in the way and I don't hear from them as often as I'd like. It's crazy what something as small as a Facebook post can do to a person's mood.
I am here to tell you that it's okay to want attention on your birthday.
A lot of people feel like they need to play down their excitement so they don't seem too "extra" or whatever they are calling it nowadays. Be extra. Be "too much." It's YOUR special day, we all have one, too.
I am also here to remind you that you should make everyone you love feel just as special on their birthday as they make you feel on yours. Throw them a surprise party or take them out to lunch. Just be with them and let them know you care.
Birthday's are the best and should be celebrated just like any other national holiday.
Let's make birthday's great again.
