You're trying your hardest every day to build your online following whether it's for your business or your personal page. People seem to be dropping like flies and it probably has you worried. But why is this happening? Am I boring? Too analytical? Too pushy? Well, let's find out.
Let's start off with a few facts. Instagram's algorithm can be, for lack of better word, awful. The average Instagrammer only sees about 30% of what appears on their feed throughout the day. I mean think about it! You follow say 500 people but only see the same 10 faces every day? To top it off, IGTV and reels also have their own algorithm to figure out aside from regular IG posts. Odd, but we can help this.
You have to think about engagement. How likely is someone to like, comment, save, or share your post? Is it interactive? Is it interesting enough to the eye to get a click to your profile? This is where the creative experimentation comes in. You have to try new and fun things. That guy that just started up a business from his favorite hobby? He received over 40 comments on his post. Or the girl that dyed her hair neon pink? 20 saves on that post. Simply because it's something new that not everyone does or sees. Now, I'm not saying go out and dye your hair a crazy color. I'm poking at the idea of doing something interesting, something that people enjoy seeing and talking about.
Consistency is next. I was once told you will never see change if you aren't consistent. For example, if you are trying to lose weight. Skipping the gym will get you nowhere. Going every day even for 20 minutes will result in change. Same thing goes for social media. You can't be consistent for a few days and then fall off. Working each day to post and experimenting with different posting times, hashtags, or how you present your posts will pay off in the end.
My final words will be this: BE YOURSELF. Yeah, yeah, yeah we've heard that one before, right? It's freakishly true though! Be yourself and I mean it. Let me put this into perspective for you. I am by no means extroverted. I'm more-so on the quiet side and don't typically put myself out there but one of my favorite things is to say what I'm feeling on social media - in a stubborn yet light hearted way of course! My followers know this and I have had strangers follow and message me to say how much they enjoy the "chaotic and energy-filled" posts. This isn't a brag. It's simply a "Hey! Put your true self out there and the right crowd will attract!" gesture. People need more of fun-filled, crazy, and whimsical people in this negative world.
You can mess around with numbers all day and find what works but your personality is what really shines through at the end of the day. Be social on social media!
