It's October 4rd. We're in Tilburg, in the South of the Netherlands, and I'm in line waiting for the doors of the concert venue to open. Lorde is performing tonight. It's time for the Melodrama World Tour.
Khalid opens the show with his reportoire. He was very good, but it's not my kind of music. Nevertheless, he got the crowd going and that created a great atmosphere. At 9:15 P.M. it was finally time. The TV was turned on and there were images shown of Lorde and her 'melodrama'. Not much later the sounds of "Homemade Dyanmite" filled the room and Lorde entered the stage wearing a big black hat and an amazing, unique outfit.
The setlist was a nice combination between her debut and sophomore album. The switched a lot between them and this created a nice vibe throughout the concert. The concert was divided into three parts with three outfits. After every part she changed her complete outfit and she also changed the (very minimalistic) decor. She has different kinds of artsy light sculptures (I don't really know what to call them) and she changed them for every part. Especially the second lights were amazing and it made her look like a real life angel.
The first part of the show consisted of some oldies and new material mixed together. Songs as "The Louvre", "Buzzcut Season", "Tennis Court" and "Sober" could be heard on the halls of the 013, the concert venue. After that she turned it down a bit and asked the bar for a whiskey, she said it would help with her cold. The bar provided and she continued with a very touching speech that came right from her heart. People around me cried; I almost did too. Of course, the song she sang after that was "Liability". This was just amazing.
After that she continued on with "A World Alone", a cover of Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight" and she than moved on to some of her greatest hits. "Royals", "Team", "Perfect Places" and "Green Light" wrapped up the show and after a encore of "Loveless" she left the stage for the final time.
Honestly, this concert was really amazing. Lorde sounded so good and the setlist was also really nice. The only thing I was missing was "Writer in the Dark". Escpecially, since she sang it live a lot in the States and there's a whole merchandise line based on that particular song. But in spite of that, I had a great time and if you're still going to see her live I'm sure you'll have an amazing evening!
