My perspective on dating a boy back home while in college

Distance and Dating

Initially before you click on this post to read, you may be thinking this is like every other distance dating article where it is discouraged to go off to a college with a boyfriend. I find it the exact opposite. I am a junior in college and have been dating my boyfriend for almost a year now, and it could not be any better. He took a leap of faith to date while I am 8 hours away 2/3s of the year. Funny thing is, we went to highschool together, and wanted to be with each other then but time saved us for later, and I am so glad that it did. Him and I reconnected over my winter break of sophomore year and hit it off right away. It was a lot for me to ask him to date me at the time because we did not spend that much time together before I had to leave to go back for spring semester... I had faith that the relationship could be done.

Long distance has its benefits such as being able to focus at school more, developing good communication skills and much more! Being in a long distance relationship has taught me trust, patience, raw love, and hope. Being with a person who loves you equally as much as you love them makes it so easy! We have adapted certain things to do together such as facetiming every night, watching a movie together every other weekend, having food dates, and even falling asleep on the phone. I have taken a good amount of his clothes here with me that I wear constantly, and of course they are always his favorite pieces of clothing so it is a fight to "borrow" it... I always win in the end.

My overall message is to not be discouraged by the distance. It is said that distance makes the heart grow fonder, and I can verify that statement. In the beginning it will be hard because the want to be with each other will haunt you, but once you make a schedule or adapt to the new lifestyle of the relationship it will become easier day by day. I think in the long run, long distance relationships always prevail if both people just want to be with eachother, and have the same amount of endless love.

Just a daily thought for everyone struggling or going through this change!!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
