Long Overdue Thoughts On The Transgender Bathroom Bill

And why it's completely stupid.

Long Overdue Thoughts On The Transgender Bathroom Bill
Trans City

It is a subject that I’ve tried to avoid for a long time mostly because I live in East Tennessee and, quite frankly, the entire subject is completely idiotic. However, it is something that people will not seem to just let go. So, I’m going to waste everybody’s time and explain why this is so stupid, because many people just can’t see it.

A variety of states are now looking at passing a bigoted bill, which would not allow certain people who are transgender to use the bathroom in the restroom that they identify with. What that means is that if you were born a man, but transitioned into a woman, you would have to use the men’s restroom. Even if this woman had a vagina and boobs, she would be forced to use the men’s restroom.

It is very clear why the whole thing is completely stupid, and you are stupid if you argue for such a law. Here is why: is there going to be a police officer checking the genitals of every man, woman, or child that goes to use the restroom? Who’s going to pay for that? What is sad is that Republicans who support this bill are going to great lengths to pass a law that can in no way be enforced. It is so stupid that it is damn near laughable. But regardless of how stupid this bill is, many people in my neck of the woods (East Tennessee) are behind it 100 percent for various reasons. I am going to debunk those reasons right now.

The most common reason that a supporter of the transgender bathroom bill gives for why they support such a bill is that they are afraid that the “trannies’ will molest their kids in the restroom. The reason why this argument doesn’t work is because it never happens. First of all, it is illegal to molest a child, and it will always be illegal. Secondly, no child molester is going to dress up as the opposite sex and molest a child in a public restroom in broad daylight. It’s not going to happen. It had never happened before, and it will never happen. And even in a shot-in-the-dark chance that it does happen, it is still illegal. The molester of that child will go to jail. How many kids go into the bathroom alone, anyhow? Most parents I know accompany their kids in a public restroom. If you are so worried about your kids being molested, then what we really need are separate bathrooms for Catholic priests. The odds of your kid being molested by a Catholic priest are much higher than being molested by a transgender person.

The second most common excuse for supporting the bigoted transgender bathroom bill is that it goes against God’s will. That it goes against the beliefs of Christians. It’s fine that you believe in your religion. It’s fine that you practice your religion. You have a right to your religion just as I have the right to reject that religion. But in America, we have a freedom of and from religion. That means that no religion can be established as the official state religion. So, you want to hate transgender people based on your religion, fine. You have the right to do that. But telling other people how to live their life is not a right. Your beliefs mean nothing in a secular society. If you want to hate transgender people, you can do that. But you cannot tell them how to live based on your interpretation of the Bible. If you want to live where the religious beliefs of others rule the nation, I recommend you move to Saudi Arabia or Pakistan. America is a secular nation. It always has been. If you don’t like it, piss off.

The third most common excuse I hear from people who support the transgender bathroom bill is that “it just makes us so uncomfortable.” So? Since when does your comfort matter? I feel uncomfortable when I’m at a family gathering or in a pubic school and they decide to have a group prayer. Do you all care if I’m feeling uncomfortable? No! And honestly, I don’t say anything when I’m at that family gathering during the group prayer because they have the right to pray and believe what they want regardless of whether it makes me comfortable or not. That’s a basic human right. Just like it should be a right to use the bathroom in the restroom that you identify with. But no, it just makes you all feel so damn uncomfortable. Boo-hoo. Why don’t you go and cry about it?

The transgender bathroom bill is probably the dumbest bill to come to legislation in recent years. The sad part is that I don’t believe that many people who are in favor of the bill realize just how stupid and ridiculous it is. Perhaps that’s because they’re stupid and ridiculous? Perhaps they’re nothing more than spoiled children. Well, I've got news for you, being a straight, white man in America doesn’t mean that you get to tell other people how to live their lives. Shocking, I know, but it's just reality. Time to wake up, America.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
