If you enjoy spending time in nature, dancing, and are someone who appreciates authenticity, then Maggie Rogers is the artist you need to be listening to. Her first big hit "Alaska" was released in 2016 and continues to be one of the top played songs in my library. Maggie grew up in a very rural town in Maryland and says she loves being outside and began playing banjo from a young age. As is expected for humans grow and evolve, her music has grown with her through discovery and opportunities while studying at NYU's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music as she has created a multi-dimensional sound incorporating her roots of folk and singer/songwriter music with dance sounds.

Pharrell Williams had a masterclass at NYU in which Maggie shares with him how studying abroad in France is what introduced her to using dance music as a backbone in her compositions while including "natural samples" from hikes and spending time outdoors. Pharrell describes Maggie's music as "singular" for her authenticity, as it can not be compared to anything else you've heard.

Check out this video of the masterclass where she samples her song Alaska for him:

Just because Maggie is also paired incredible visuals with her music, here are some of her other songs to enjoy:

1. "Dog Years"

A song to remind you of the lakes and rivers, and peaceful dock-sitting afternoons.

2. "On + Off"

A song for dancing, always dancing.

3. "Split Stones"

A song for hiking, traveling and discovering.

To me, the interview between Maggie and Pharrell encompasses a conversation about true artistry. Growing up with an appreciation and involvement in the arts, I have a mission of making my life into a work of art, which can only be achieved through authenticity and remaining true to yourself. Pharrell states in the above interview, "You have to be willing to seek and you have to be willing to be real frank in your music and frank in your choices." This is not only true for musical artists but for all humans along our journey. Happy listening!

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
