Life As Told By Baseball Season

Baseball season is finally back and I, along with many others, couldn’t be more excited! Being in the stadium with fellow trash talking fans, drinking over-priced beer, and devouring artery-clogging hot dogs and popcorn is my definition of a perfect day. But have you ever watched a baseball game? I mean actually watched one. Your boyfriend having the Cubs game on while you impatiently scroll through your Instagram feed doesn’t count.

It’s actually an interesting game if you give it a chance. Yeah, some people say it’s boring because the majority of the time all the players do is stand there. And yeah, most of the batters just end of being struck out or throw out at first base. And yeah, a decent portion of the game is less action packed than your Great Aunt Mary trying to get off the couch, but I swear it’s a delightfully engaging and physically challenging game!

Baseball isn’t easy. If you’ve ever played baseball or softball you’ll understand exactly where I’m coming from. It’s a sport, so it obviously has an athletic demand, but it also has an immense mental demand as well. Baseball as a whole is actually a perfect metaphor for life and here is why.

1. No matter how hard you practice, you still lose.

.

2. But on the rare occasion, that practice pays off.

3. Sometimes you just look stupid.

4. And sometimes you look like a badass.

5. Not everyone gets along.

6. But when they do...

7. Sometimes you fall down. Hard.

8. Every once in awhile you get lucky.

9. But this is usually how it works out.

10. Even the best make mistakes.

11. Not everything makes sense all the time.

12. Sometimes it's all fun and games.

13. And sometimes you have to get down to business.

14. Getting knocked down is bound to happen.

15. Every once in awhile, everything works out even better than you planned.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
