Happy Pride Month!
While this Pride we can't celebrate at parades or festivals, we can still use some of our time in quarantine to stream shows that feature LGBTQ+ characters and plot lines. Here's a list of five of my favorites that feature queer characters but don't use their sexuality as the main driving force of the plot, giving these characters a more rounded characterization than just their sexual orientation.
1. Sex Education
Sex Education features so many characters representing so many aspects of the LGBTQ+ community, including gay men, a pansexual girl, and a bisexual boy.
2. Atypical
Atypical, first of all, is an incredible show, and second of all, the friendship turned romance between Casey and Izzie is one of my slightly problematic favorite ships.
3. Dead To Me
Season One had me slightly confused because Dead To Me is a Netflix original that lacked an LGBT plotline, which Netflix shows are known to feature. However, Season Two introduces as a couple that is sure to make you smile.
4. The Fosters
I'm just going to copy and paste Netflix's description for this show: This offbeat drama charts the ups and downs of an interracial lesbian couple and their multiethnic brood of biological, adopted, and foster children.
5. Everything Sucks
Everything Sucks only got one season, which, quite frankly, sucks, but does such a great job showing a teenage girl from a small town in the 90s coming to terms with her sexuality.
