"You're listening to KANM, the college station of College Station!"

This is my newest and most favorite thing to say, specifically Mondays 4-5pm during my show "Giving You Hale" when I get to play music I love and talk about things like concerts, artists, and albums, all the way down to The Bachelor (sorry not sorry, not my fault my show ended up being on a Monday #BachelorNation).

If you're like me, you've probably never heard of KANM before. I hadn't until I received an email about their organization, and this is the second semester of my junior year! They are definitely not talked about on the campus of A&M enough. I wish I had found this amazing bunch of music gurus sooner. They literally have the whole world of music to offer.

So what is KANM? We are a student-run radio station at Texas A&M University (located deep, deep in the MSC). There are over 100 members, and enough DJs to keep your ears satisfied practically all day, every day. DJs program shows playing music including every single genre imaginable, anything from indie pop to hip-hop to punk to jazz to R&B and so on. You can find the DJ schedule here.

Get you a radio station who can do it all.

We try to provide music that is typically ignored by commercial radio, the stuff everybody knows and listens to. I mean think about it, your all-time favorite artist was once just a young teenager whose only audience was probably a set of parents and a set of friends. Everyone starts small, no one is born with an album and fanbase already created for them. Not even Beyoncé.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to support small artists and bands just as much as large artists and bands. Yes, I am a huge fan of Taylor Swift, but I'm also a huge fan of The Greeting Committee, have you ever heard of them? Their lead singer's name is Addie and I got to interview her while they were touring with Jukebox The ghost. She told me all about the band, where and how they started, and some of her biggest goals and dreams. Without the music industry I never would've gotten to meet them, and now I can support them by playing some of their music on my show from time to time. I love "Shake it Off" as much as you do, I truly do, but listen to "More" next time you open your Spotify and see what an underground band can do for you.

Yes, we love being a part of KANM because it makes us cooler than the average student, gives us bragging rights, and allows us to talk on air (let's be honest), but the thing I love the most is sharing music I love with people I love created by artists I love. Mainstream music is important, I mean what else are people going to play at prom? But hidden gems? Those are the most secretly amazing pieces of art out there. They might never be chart-toppers, But they're beautiful, full of talent and meaning, and, of course, played by your KANM DJs.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
