On May 1, the long-awaited John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous finally dropped on Netflix, and it was the moment I had been waiting for. Although I could not wait up all night for it to drop, because I am a grandma, I watched it as soon as I could. Let me tell you one thing about Kid Gorgeous, it did not disappoint.
John Mulaney is easily my favorite stand-up comedian, because his jokes and stories are easily quotable, relatable, and just the right amount of absurd. This is his third show to be featured on Netflix, the other two being ‘New in Town' and ‘The Comeback Kid,' and they just keep getting better.
Some the jokes John Mulaney makes in ‘Kid Gorgeous' will sound very familiar to his SNL monologue from a few weeks ago, which was also amazing.
He starts ‘Kid Gorgeous' talking about, none other than ghosts. If you've seen all three of his shows on Netflix right now, you will notice that he always has a bit about his parents. This one was about his mom telling him that she has seen a ghost before. Without giving too much away it was a very good start to the long-awaited ‘Kid Gorgeous.'
Now my absolute favorite bit from the show was when he starts rating about college. He presents the bit with talking about how his former college recently mailed him a letter asking if he would be willing to donate to the university. To put it briefly, he was not at all okay with donating to a university that has already put him $120,000 in debt for his four years there. Everything he says in this bit is something that everyone college student right now can relate to, and be in tears laughing while watching it.
To be completely honest, I think ‘New in Town' is still my favorite show of John Mulaney's but ‘Kid Gorgeous' did not at all disappoint. He delivered and he did it well like he always does. Now we are in a mourning period as my friends and I continue to rewatch ‘Kid Gorgeous' and pick out the most quotable lines and use them in everyday conversation while waiting for his next stand up tour to begin so we can have a new show to look forward too.
