How Does Social Activism Treat Jews?

Jewish people fall in a precarious spot when it comes to politics and activism, and it's time we discuss it.

If you're Jewish, you are well aware that we've always been unsure of our place in the world according to others. Are we a race? Religion? Ethnicity? Culture? Some combination of the aforementioned?

In my sociology textbook, the Jewish people were used as the example of a Pariah Group, a group that suffers from negative status discrimination. These groups are looked down on by most other members of society.

Your family might support Israel or at least recognize its importance in our history, while liberal activists brand you as a Zionist the moment Israel comes up. If you're irreligious, it's difficult to express your loyalty to the experience you grew up with while disagreeing with the fine print.

Some hate you for your beliefs, and others for your genes.

Whatever the case, Jews have been in a precarious position in society since the beginning of time. This exclusion persists into modern day "inclusive" activism.

According to Oliver Holmes at The Guardian in the article "Antisemitic incidents in US soar to highest level in two decades", "Close to 2,000 cases of harassment, vandalism, and physical assault were recorded, the highest number of antisemitic incidents since 1994…", while referring to 2017 when Donald J. Trump became president.

We have seen a resurgence of Nazis, KKK members, and blatantly anti-semitic hate crimes, such as bomb threats towards Jewish community centers and the desecration of Jewish graves. There's simply no denying that conservatives hate Jews.

You would think that with such a polarized society that liberals would rush to aid the Jewish community. Au, contraire.

The left has completely ignored the Jews in their "inclusive" activism. Anytime there is an instance in which poc, the LGBTQ+ community, women, and other religious minorities are affected, it's discussed and dissected by liberals, as it should be.

Let me make it clear that I wholly support activism for these mistreated communities. However, Jews are being shunted and it is not okay.

Perhaps liberals are less than kind because Israel has undeniably committed horrendous acts. However, the assumption that every Jew supports Israel or even is associated with Israel is anti-semitic in itself.

One thing is for sure; Jews are feeling the heat from both sides. If you're a goy (non-Jew), please take a look at how you perceive Jews. Put yourself in our shoes. We are being pulled every which way, stereotyped and marginalized by practically everyone. Jews deserve your sympathy and your inclusion.

Feel free to comment or start a narrative in your own community.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
