When I initially tell people who aren't in one themselves that I'm in a sorority, although they're nice about it, they basically undermine it and call me out by saying "that's just paying for friends in college."
What I've learned from being in a sorority this past year is that that statement couldn't be any less accurate.
Because of my sorority, I have not only had the opportunity to inspire others- especially the young girls we impact as we work closely with the local Girl Scouts as one of our philanthropies, but I've been inspired myself. I'm lucky enough to have a support system of over a hundred girls who although I talk to some and know some on a way more personal level than others (cmon, realistically we can't know every single girl down to their core in a group this large), I have been inspired in some way, shape, or form by basically every sister.
Whether it has been me getting outfit inspo from one of my sister's who always wears cute clothes and posts on Insta, to having boy trouble and needing a shoulder to cry on, or trying to figure out what the heck I'm doing in college/ the future, I have had a girl I can look to, go to, or reach out to for basically any situation.
Being in a sorority and around this many girls truly does build character and help you figure out the type of person you aspire to be like while around others, and become more content with yourself when you are alone.
My sorority and the group of positive and uplifting girls I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by have truly helped shape me into the woman I am today and I could not be any more grateful for that.
If you're thinking about going through recruitment at any time, I urge you to do so if you're looking for your girl gang, because I have developed friendships and skills that I will now have forever thanks to mine.
