Interview With A Musician
Abbi Webb

While in college, you have many different opportunities to go to different concerts and parties. Me personally, I will pick a concert over a party every time. Especially when a friend is performing in the band. On October 21st in the year 2016, I went to see my friend perform in the band A Burden To Bear. The members in the band are from all over Indiana and one from Ohio. I got the opportunity to interview A Burden To Bear on Friday October 28th. I was happy that they had agreed to interview with me for this article. A Burden To Bear was created nine months ago and played a live show just recently at Rhino’s All Age Club in Bloomington on October 21st. The show was awesome and the energy coming off of the bands that performed was amazing. Just to see how proud everyone was and to see all the hard work accumulate into one amazing show was awesome.

What is your name? “Jake Lindy.”

How old are you? “I am 23 years old.”

When did you get your first guitar? “Christmas morning when I was 4.”

When did you learn to play guitar? “I started learning from my great grandmother around the age of 5.”

What made you want to learn to play an instrument? “My great grandma got me into it when I was younger.”

When did you realize your dream was to work with music? “When I was about 10 or 11, I went to my first local show. A couple of my friends had a band and I realized that I wanted to do that after I watched them.”

How much time do you dedicate to playing your music? “I try to get at least an hour or 2 a day.”

When did you start playing in front of other people? “When I was 7. I was putting on bullshit concerts for my mom and dad. I thought I was a country singer.”

What is it like playing in concerts? “It is the most intense energy that is the most addictive thing ever. To look out into the crowd and see people who actually like what you are doing.”

Who is your most favorite musical Idol? “I would have to say Chris Motionless from Motionless In White just because of what he writes.”

Who are your other musical idols? (Top 3) “My top 3 favorite musical idols are Danny Worshnop of Asking Alexandria, Dan Jacobs of Atreyu, and Luke Holland of The Word Alive.”

Who is your favorite band? “I cannot pick from this group of bands. Atreyu, Asking Alexandria, Confide, One Last Look, and Motionless In White.”

What is your favorite musical genre? “Pretty much anything metal.”

What do you see yourself doing in 5 years? “Making designer flip flops.”

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years? “Wishing I didn’t make designer flip flops.”

Do you see yourself working with or in music for the rest of your life? “Oh Yeah definitely.”

Is being in music your dream? “Most certainly. Yes it is.”

Are you happy to be following your dream? “Yes I am.”

Has there been a lot of heartache along this road to be following your dream? “For sure. There’s been bands that I’ve thought that were going to make it back in the day. Since I first started doing this in school and high school, I’ve lost friends along the way. But I’ve made new friends.”

Have you had to make a lot of sacrifice to follow this dream? “Yeah, I’ve spent thousands and thousands of dollars from buying equipment and getting to and from shows. Then there is time that I can be spending with friends and family.”

Do you have any words for anyone who wants to pursue music but is too afraid to? “Don’t be afraid to. Go balls deep. You shouldn’t be afraid to do what you want to do.”

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
