I've always wanted a tattoo, but there were always two big problems with that: my parents would kill me and I'm a Gemini. Geminis are terrible at making decisions and are afraid of long-term commitment. I've watched friends get tattoos over the years and I was always so jealous because I wanted one so badly, but I was too afraid to get one. My roommate did end up giving me a stick-and-poke tattoo because I lost a bet, but that's a story for a different time.
I started seeing ads for Inkbox tattoos on all of my social media feeds, so I figured I would give it a shot. Their story can be found on their website, but they were inspired by indigenous tribes in Panama who have been tattooing their skin with the pulp of the Genipapo fruit. They futurized the idea and so Inkbox was born.
The best way I can describe Inkbox is:
If a henna tattoo and temporary tattoo had a lovechild.
I tried one tattoo before and loved the results, so I wanted to share the awesomeness of Inkbox so that, if you're like me and hate commitment, you can enjoy being tatted too.
The kit comes with your tattoo, alcohol wipe, cloth, glove, instructions (of course) and a laptop sticker:
I put the tattoo on my sternum, which was surprisingly easier than I thought since you have to apply hard pressure for 30 seconds and then constant pressure for 15 minutes afterward. I just laid on my back in my bathroom for 15 minutes, no questions asked by my family. You have to be careful not to move the towel otherwise the tattoo will bleed.
The tattoo is very faint when you first apply it, but it gets darker within 12-24 hours. This is what it looked like after I had pulled the stencil off:
This is what the tattoo looked like after about 12 hours:
Because of the location of the tattoo and the size of my chest area (which is both a blessing and a curse), my tattoo lasted about a week compared to the two-week time frame that they tell you. I was so happy with my first tattoo that I decided to get another one, and I'll probably be getting more in the future. They also sell freehand ink which is sold in a little squeeze bottle with a fine tip perfect for creating your own design.
The quality of the product is comparable to the price, which is about $19-23 per tattoo. They also have sales frequently, so that's something to keep an eye out for. Inkbox has created an amazing product for those who either want a tattoo and aren't sure about it or for people who just want to experiment with cute looks.
