By now we've all had a chance to binge-watch Stranger Things 2 on Netflix and *while I have my personal reservations about episode 7*, it was overall sooooo good to us. Season two introduced us to some very interesting and lovable characters (Bob, I'm lookin' at you), as well as gave more screen time and added some character depth to some of our favorites already (yes, we all know I'm referring to Dustin). With all the crazy stuff that goes down in the show, we as viewers have come to recognize the strengths of various characters in all kinds of situations. Now I can't be the only one who's asked myself on many an occasion, "but what if the cast of Stranger Things were to declare college majors?" And if you've been wondering the same thing, fret no more. I got you. **WARNING: SPOILERS**
Joyce Beyers- Communications
Joyce has by now become an expert on how to figure out what Will is trying to tell her about the goings on in the Upside Down. From season one's Christmas lights fiasco to this season's version of that (her own personal demagorgon wallpaper), Joyce has got the art of communications down to a tee. *Side note, I'm pretty sure from now on every season is going to feature something crazy happening on the walls of her house.*
Jim Hopper- Criminal Justice
Aside from the obvious reason that Jim's a policeman, he has his own agenda to bring the scientists at Hawkins lab to justice for their horrible treatment of El and the other "experiments". Not to mention, he works tirelessly trying to figure out what's happened to Will in season one and discovering ways to use Will to stop the demagorgons in season two.
Eleven (Jane)- Psychology
El's just way too frickin' cool to do anything but psychology. While she doesn't read people's minds (per say), she does have her own unique way of figuring out how to find people and read their emotions using her own thoughts. If this were Sherlock, we could say her "mind palace", but now we're really geeking out.
Dr. Martin Brenner- Biology
Even if we didn't know this guy was a doctor, he already has that creepy, detached "evil doctor" vibe about him. Brenner and the whole concept of 15 years of schooling and residency just seem to match... both very scary.
Mike Wheeler- Telecommunications
Where would Mike be without his trusty walkie-talkie? While all the boys carry these around, Mike would definitely be the one to specialize in telecommunications by now judging by how often he's attempted to use the walkie-talkie, the radio, and even the TV to communicate with El. Ah, young love.
Will Beyers- Graphic Design
We can't give all the credit to Joyce for all the creative ways used to communicate with Will the past two seasons. Will has used lights, walls, crayons, and even taps on a chair to express his thoughts. Talk about artistic ability. While communications could certainly be up his alley as well, it takes serious dedication to one's craft to color on about 200 sheets of paper in one day.
Dustin Henderson- English
This isn't a stab at his cute little lisp, I promise. Dustin's vocabulary, as we've come to learn by now, is VERY colorful. With some effort, I think Dustin would deeply enjoy a career in the study of the English language... if maybe only to insult people using fancier words.
Lucas Sinclair- Family Studies and Human Development
Lucas, as we've especially seen in season two, cares deeply about the well-being and development of their friend group. When he thinks Dustin's lying about taking in the demagorgon again, he calls him out on it. He talks to Max about her home issues, and he makes sure she knows that their policy is "friends don't lie". Maybe it's just me, but I could definitely see him having a serious future in the family studies and human development field.
Max Mayfield- Game Development
It clearly takes a lot of talent to beat the boys in arcade games. "Mad Max" is obviously a beast gamer, as well as a creative thinker. A career in game development is totally up her alley.
Billy Hargrove- Social Work
You probably read that and said, "Really, Deborah?" but bear with me here. Billy might seem like the college dropout or just overall jerk who starts as a business major because he doesn't know where he's going with it and then flunks out halfway through the first semester. However, we've seen him vulnerable in the show and in those times we can see that Billy really does have a conscience. If he gets his daddy issues in check, he could be a serious help to kids like him.
Nancy Wheeler- Journalism
There's a reason why Nancy and Jonathan got along so well with the weird conspiracy theory guy they went to visit... they're born journalists. Nancy is hell-bent on getting #justiceforBarb and she knows just how to spin a story to accomplish that goal. She even thought to get a tape recording when they went to Hawkins lab. If that doesn't scream "sneaky reporter", I don't know what does.
Jonathan Beyers- Fine Arts in Photography
Like we said above, Jonathan could definitely have a career in the journalism field. However, his angle comes more from a photography standpoint. Jonathan's gotten pretty good at using his pictures to convey emotion and finding the right moments to remember. This obviously doesn't apply to his creepy picture-taking of Nancy in season one, but we don't talk about that...
Steve Harrington- Sports Management
You know, this may not be completely doing Steve justice but at this point in the story, this is probably the option Steve would choose. He's starting to become a really solid guy who cares about the safety of the kids and is willing to put his own life in danger to make sure they don't get hurt. However, he's still a little scared to really put himself out there and do something beyond his comfort zone.
Bob Newby- Computer Science
Oh, Bob. What a little name for such a person. (If you got that reference, SO many props to you. Winona Ryder can be in more than just weird movies and shows). Bob definitely seems like kind of a nerd and not the brightest bulb at the beginning of the show, but as it goes on we see so much of his huge heart. However, his biggest strength does lie in everything technology, which is ultimately what saves Joyce and the gang at the end. RIP Bob, you will be missed.
Barbara Holland- Sociology
I'm among those who feel like we didn't get to experience enough of Barb's greatness before she...well, was eaten by a demagorgon. In the brief time we did get to see her, however, we clearly see Barb's concern for Nancy and her desire for Nancy to understand why Steve isn't good for her. Barb could definitely have a career in counseling. Kinda bitter that she didn't magically rise from the dead in season two, but it's fine, we're fine.
