The Ice Will Break Your Fall

Last weekend, Pullman hosted the annual Apple Cup football game between WSU and University of Washington at Martin Stadium. Although, the conclusion may not have been what Cougs had hoped for, at least something comical came from the experience!

Any WSU student knows that the low winter temperatures in Pullman are a yearly inconvenience, but it is the ice that continuously freezes over that proves to be the enemy. Besides the heated pathways on campus, icy sidewalks are dangerous territory. It is common to see fellow Cougs slipping and sliding, and occasionally wiping out, all over campus. It is actually pretty funny. Last year, there was even a video on YouTube that reached over 40,000 hits. Re-live it, below.

Before the annual, overly-anticipated Apple Cup, the majority of fans all get together to tailgate and get ready to cheer on their team before the game! Junior Lianna Simms was one of those fans! At the tailgate, a local news reporter from KREM2 in Spokane, was there to cover the Apple Cup. An extremely excited student accidentally eats it on the ice behind the reporter and, of course, it was all caught on film. Thankfully, she did not experience any severe injuries, only a sore neck -- which is quite understandable if you watch the video.

Following the game, the video began to go viral -- at least, locally. It was first posted by KREM2, stating the fall was "as painful as it looks!" Then, it was posted by Deadspin.com, stating that she, "ate it just as hard as the Cougs did." Well, that's just rude. Bill Haisley, the writer for Deadspin also stated that he did not realize Washington State students get so pumped about the Apple Cup. Then, it was shared by 107.7 The End, a popular radio station in the Greater Seattle Area. Check out the video below!

I spoke to Lianna Simms about the video coverage and this is what she had to say.

What was going through your head when you fell? Honestly, it happened so fast that I didn't have time to think! I was just determined to get on camera when I saw them cheering.

Did you think the video would go viral? Not at all. The cameraman wasn't even sure if he got it on film!

How do you feel now that the video has become so popular? It's just funny, at this point, how many people have come up to me asking if I'm okay or making jokes like, "Careful, it's slippery outside" or "Watch the ice!"

At least Simms has the right kind of attitude! What can you do but laugh it off? Thanks, Simms, for giving us all a memory to look back on for Apple Cup 2014! Regardless if the final score was not what we had anticipated, we'll cheer for our Cougs until the day we die! Because everyone knows -- win or lose, Cougs always!

6 Things Owning A Cat Has Taught Me
Liz Abere

Owning a pet can get difficult and expensive. Sometimes, their vet bills cost hundreds of dollars just for one visit. On top of that, pets also need food, a wee wee pad for a dog, a litter box with litter for a cat, toys, and treats. Besides having to spend hundreds of dollars on them, they provide a great companion and are almost always there when you need to talk to someone. For the past six years, I have been the proud owner of my purebred Bengal cat named Spock. Although he's only seven years and four months old, he's taught me so much. Here's a few of the things that he has taught me.

It's fun to see all of the selfies on social media, they are everywhere. I see pictures with pouty lips, duck lips and pucker lips. I see smokey eyes, huge fake lashes and nicely done nose jobs, boob jobs and butt lifts. Women working out in spandex, tiny tops and flip flops. I see tight abs and firm butts, manicured nails and toes, up dos and flowing hair. "Wow", I think to myself," I could apply tons of make-up, spend an hour on my hair, pose all day and not look like that. Maybe I need a longer stick!"

Ancient Roman Kings: 7 Leaders of Early Rome

The names and dates of the reigns of the first four kings, as well as the alternation of Sabin and Latin names, are more legendary than historical. The last three kings, of Etruscan origin, have an existence which seems less uncertain.

It is evident that all this is only a legend although archeology shows us little by little that these kings if they did not exist as the ancient history, describes them, have at least in the very Outlines were real as chief of a shepherd’s tribe. The period when kings ruled Rome could estimate at 245 years.
