A Huge Thanks To The Faykus Family

A Huge Thanks To The Faykus Family
Kelsey Faykus

A few weeks ago, a harmless sink leak transformed into a photo damaging tragedy. The boxes and boxes of my childhood photos were compromised. My family and I spent a whole afternoon laying out photos with hopes to save the memories in ink. The numerous pictures lined the hardwood floor with exerts from the past. I was able to relive the Kelsey timeline, starting in 1996. There were photos from my birth, photos from that one zoo trip with I got to hold a parrot, photos of my brother and I dressed as our all time favorite superhero: batman, and many more days filled with family. As my eyes followed the timeline, I observed growth. I outgrew my diapers, I lost teeth, and I developed my character. With every measure of growth, I noticed that my family was pictured alongside me. The family God blessed me with has had a major role in shaping the person I am today. It is complicated to find the words to express how grateful I am for the lessons, love, and memories that tighten our family bond.

My beautiful mother is my walking/talking inspiration. The positive energy that she carries is absolutely contagious. There is no way that your mouth can fall into a frown when you are around her. This woman has a drive for change. She has shown me the stars and taught me how to reach for them.

My dad is the best. I can honestly say that I have never met someone with such a genuine and gentle heart. I do not tell him enough just how thankful I am for the sacrifices he makes on a daily basis. Since I was younger, he has worked two jobs in order to support our family. However, somehow he always finds time to attend my games and spend time with us. For this, I cannot thank him enough. He also encourages the most important aspect of my life, my faith.

For those of you who do not know my brother, Trenton Faykus, you are missing out. He is my best friend and has been there for me through thick and thin. He has modeled what it is to be trustworthy. He listens without casting judgement. He is an old soul with wise words and wisdom.

Family is forever. I love you guys!

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
