There are times in your life when you just feel that you're meant to do things. You don't even have to believe in destiny or predetermined fate to get that feeling in your heart or in the pit of your stomach that you're just meant to be somewhere and you're meant to be doing something. Not everyone has the feeling early in their life, and not everyone has the feeling for the same thing. It's possible that you've felt like you're meant to travel; here are some ways you can tell that traveling as a lifestyle is right for you - whether it's for work or as a hobby.
You get excited about the prospect of traveling.
If you don't, you're clearly not on the right path. Why do something you're not excited for? Every time I know I get to go somewhere new, I have this nervous-excited feeling in my stomach. Just recently, I went on a plane for the first time in my life and I was so nervous that my mind circled around to all possible negative outcomes, but it ended up being the most exciting time of my entire life. If you don't get excited about the idea of having to cram just the right amount of clothes in your suitcase so that you don't have to check a bag at the airport, this is not the right thing for you. If you don't feel thrilled when thinking about how to pack just perfectly for your house so that you only need one U-Haul trip and the trunk of your car, you aren't ready for a traveling lifestyle.
You have to be excited about where you're going.
Whether it's a small town in Ohio or Oslo, Norway, New York City or Sydney, Australia, you need to be hyped up for this trip. Of course, sometimes you go places you don't want to go. But if you want to spend your life traveling, you need to always be amped up and ready to go. If you don't, you'll find yourself bored and tired and you'll realize you need to settle down somewhere. If you're always excited for a new adventure, wherever you're going, you'll find that you spend a lot more time loving the traveling rather than dreading it.
You have to be super comfortable with spending time and money...
...on restaurants and hotels for a majority of your time away - particularly if you travel for work. Typically, your job would reimburse you if you travel for your job. If not, though, traveling can get expensive. If you're comfortable staying in the cheapest, weirdest places, traveling is probably an option for you. If you like inhaling the strong scent of Pine-Sol for two nights in a 60$ hotel room in Lincoln, Nebraska, then this is the perfect life for you. Wherever you may go, it's so much fun to find the cutest little local restaurants and trying them, because you may never get another chance to be in that same place.
Every new place has to feel like home.
If you want to spend a majority of your time traveling, you have to be comfortable changing scenery from place to place. Every time I go somewhere new, I get this "I could definitely live here" feeling. I know that, realistically, I probably never will live there. Sometimes I know that I, realistically, will never be back. But even if the weather is terrible, I've been sweating for hours, and I feel like I've never been more exhausted in my life, the change of scenery makes me feel free to live like I want to. If in every new place you arrive, you feel like you never want to leave, even when you know you have to, that's the final clue that your life will be fulfilled if you travel to new and exciting places. You know you're ready for traveling as a full-time job or hobby if every new place feels like a home away from home, no matter where you are.
