Everyone uses the Internet in that they share their personal lives and pictures on various social media platforms. Because of this, many people are prone to strangers looking into their profiles and catching a glimpse of their personal lives. Cybersecurity and protecting computer systems are being enhanced to keep strangers and hackers out of the realm of intruding into people’s lives.
It has become an unfortunate reality that we can know everything about one person by viewing their profiles on the numerous social media platforms that they use. Before the huge social media shift, knowing about one’s personal life was limited to talking to that person or hearing news about that other person from someone else. However, not having met someone but still knowing everything about them has become a scary, sad reality. Paranoia comes when someone feels that anyone can look into their personal lives without having a personal connection to that person.
Personally, having the knowledge that strangers can look into my personal life has given me a way to limit what I share and post on social media. I never share too much information knowing that it can make me vulnerable and prone to many scary incidents that can happen when information gets into the wrong hands. Also, I do not post daily because posting daily with my location and caption of what I am doing is like telling everyone who looks at your photo what you like to do, the spots your frequent, and how to find you. Being paranoid about knowing someone is watching you or can know anything about you online is not something that should be overlooked. Because of this, I have looked into many cyber security programs that block certain information from the public and protect my information from online hackers.
Overall, this issue in cybersecurity has blown up over the past few years due to the heavy reliance on social media for everything from world news to personal opinions. I believe that this issue of privacy and security should not be overlooked and that the public should take many precautions such as cybersecurity programs and limitations to what you put and post online.
