How to Save For Studying Abroad

So you want to study abroad, but now you're wondering how you're going to pay for the expenses of living abroad for months, maybe even a year?! Don't worry too much because there are lots of different ways to save and plenty of scholarships offered to those studying abroad! I studied abroad for a year and I was really worried about how I would pay for it, but I managed and so did the other 60 students I lived with. Here are four ways to get money for studying abroad:

1) Start saving money now!

I knew even before I started university that I wanted to study abroad, so each month I would put away a bit of my check from work into a savings account. After years of doing that it added up to a good sum of money!

2) Apply for scholarships

There are so many different scholarships for studying abroad out there. Lots of them will even be for a specific region or area of study which makes your chances of winning a scholarship even better. One scholarship that I won was the Gilman Scholarship. It's a scholarship for those who receive the Pell Grant and their application is pretty simple. Make sure to check out their website to see if you're eligible! Also, see what scholarships your university offers. Many schools offer scholarships that usually have a low amount of applicants.

3) Start a GoFundMe

One of my roommates did this when she was low on money. It's a good way to let friends and family get involved. Maybe you can offer them a special treat or souvenir from the country your studying in as thanks for their contribution.

4) Work while you're abroad

Before considering this as an option, make sure your university and the university you will be studying abroad at allows this. I had quite a few friends who worked while studying abroad. It's also a great way to practice the local language and meet people in your community while making some extra cash.

Don't let money be a reason for not studying abroad! There are so many ways to raise money and if you get creative maybe you'll find even more ways than the ones I mentioned. The experience is worth every penny!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
