YouTube has been around since the year 2005. That's a little over 13 years that the popular web program has been in use for. If you haven't used YouTube once during your whole life, I really don't think you know what the internet is. YouTube is a company through google that contains billions of videos from creators around the Earth. From music videos to DIY's, to vlogs, to crazy pranks, YouTube has it all. A lot of individuals are gearing towards creating their own channel to start earning a little extra cash and possibly make a career out of it.
Can it be done? Absolutely. Nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it. That doesn't mean it won't involve some obstacles along the way.
To answer the question in the title of this article: Yes, you can make a living by having a YouTube channel. Many people on YouTube make major "bank" by uploading once a day. People always say it is about how many subscribers you have that allows you to make the money. THAT. IS. NOT. TRUE. It is the number of views and "Clicks Per Minute" (CPM) that you receive per video. The more views you have on a video, the more revenue you will earn. Before you start to earn money that way though you must monetize your channel. In order to monetize your channel, you must meet the requirements of having 1,000 subscribers. If you do not have that amount, you can't monetize your channel, which means you can not make a profit off of your channel. This is a recently added rule to the YouTube community so it isn't easy for everyone to make money right away.
I happen to have a YouTube channel that I upload weekly on (search Alex Atiyeh in the YouTube search engine and make sure to subscribe). For the past 6 or so years, I have been filming weekly videos for people to see on the internet. It is A LOT of work. I love to do more montage-like videos or vlogs nowadays, but when I started out I always uploaded videos of myself singing.
Anyways, what I want to share is that I am in no way shape or form in the place to stop what I am doing to make a living off of my YouTube channel. I have around 2.5 thousand subscribers, and I make between $2 to $3 A WEEK if I am lucky. That is close to $12 a month, which means around $144 per year. Definitely not the kind of place I want to be in to drop everything in my life and be a full-time YouTuber.
To me though it isn't about the money. I love to film and make quick videos to share with people and have as keepsakes to watch in the future. Like I said, I have been on YouTube for the past 6 years and I only have 2.5 thousand subscribers. The name of the game is patience. I still got time in life if I really want to make it work. I'm 18 and I'm going to college for the next 4 years so who knows? Maybe I'll make some dumb viral video that'll spark something new (it won't happen but a guy can dream).
The overall idea of this article is that you, the one reading this article, can make a living off of filming YouTube videos. If YouTube has ever interested you, pick up your phone or camera and start filming. Even if you make a little side cash after awhile, extra cash is better than no cash. Filming YouTube videos is not for everyone, but it could be for you.
