How to Create the Most out of a Day Off

Throughout the year, there will be a few occasions where there is absolutely nothing of pertinence to do. What to do with these "off days" will help in the long run especially in college.

First off, if you are behind in any classes, catch up and get ahead of the game. If you are struggling to stay on top of a harder class, it will help out a lot to be prepared in advance for that class. Academia is the most important part of college life, so it is a must to be on top of the game.

If you have achieved this already, great job, the hard part is out of the way, it doesn't mean to fall asleep because there is plenty more to be done!

If holding an executive position of a club, step two would be to prepare for future meetings. If this is a new club, this step would probably include preparing a budget or orientation of sorts. Since holding a position, it is important to help set up your club-mates for success!

The next step in the totem of chores for an off day should be to tidy up your work area, room, notes, etc. Organization can be hard to achieve in college especially if one is usually pretty busy such as myself. This time period allows for much needed organization of home life, and study life to be able to set up one's self for success. Cleaning is also found to be meditative and allow for an open calm mind on a relaxing day.

Another pertinence would be to involve one's self in activities around campus. Although those classes were cancelled, there is always an event going on around campus, so search it out and join in. Who knows what kind of awesome new passions you can endow upon!

Finally if all else fails, eat and rest. Stress is a huge thing on campuses across the nation. If you have been stressed for a while, this off day can be the perfect way to get back down to earth and relax. Taking naps can help with increased energy for the next day, along with helping relieve stress.

Also there are some key things to avoid on your off day. First of all, avoid doing absolutely nothing. Rest and relaxation are awesome especially for the stressed, but being in bed all day and not leaving your room is a big no. Get some fresh air and enjoy the beauty of nature! Also do not drink or get high, although it is an off day, there are still classes tomorrow. The goal of the off day is to relax and get one's self inspired and prepared for the rest of the week, not to hinder's the next day's functionality.

Overall, there are many things you can do on an off day to create the best school environment that you can. Although none of these things are absolutely necessary, it might help to get in those few hours of hard work to relieve some stress on those busy days. Remember, you have all day to get things done. Take time to relax, hang out with friends, and discover something knew. Following these steps will allow you to make the most of your day off.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
