How EDM Changed My Life

My entire life I have never had a true passion. Sure, there were things I enjoyed doing from time to time but they were just that - things. I had no emotional connection with anything and I was always jealous of anyone that felt so passionately about anything. Growing up in a broken family, I wish I had discovered electronic dance music far sooner than I did, because when I heard that very first drop at 15 years old, my life literally changed directions. My perspective of the world changed. All of a sudden my life didn't seem so dark anymore. I had finally found my passion and I never looked back.

Kaskade was one of the first DJs that really influenced me and to this day, almost 10 years later, he remains one of my favorite artists. I remember getting goose bumps the first time I heard his song "move for me" in 2008. I thought to myself, this music is going to save my life. And it did.

I started going to small warehouse parties around my hometown of Sacramento, CA. I absolutely fell in love with the scene. Everything about it was so genuine. The people were unique just like the music was. I still remember trading my first Kandi and learning the beautiful meaning behind PLUR.

I couldn't stop raving after that. I mean I really couldn't stop. I didn't want to. Becoming a part of the EDM community immediately put an end to my self destructive behavior. It made me realize that things were going to get better, they were getting better. I no longer felt trapped or sad. The world became bigger and opportunities seemed to be everywhere. I was glowing for the first time in my life.

Fast forward to today. A decade later and my passion for the scene has sky rocketed. I have gone from warehouse parties in my small hometown to chasing events in Los Angeles, where I reside now. Attending massive festivals such as EDC Las Vegas, Beyond Wonderland and many more. I have discovered the many different genres of EDM and how they are all so unique and all so beautiful. My passion has stemmed into another passion that is "shuffling". I just cannot stop shuffling! I love to dance and people love to watch me dance. That is an amazing feeling for me. Being able to express myself via dancing to the music that I love.

I honestly believe I wouldn't be where I am today had I not discovered electronic music. I don't think I will ever stop loving this lifestyle and I hope everyone can find something they can be as passionate about. Peace, Love, Unity and Respect.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
