When most people hear the words Chi Alpha, they think of a college fraternity. Actually, Chi Alpha is not a college fraternity at all, in reality it's quite the opposite.
Chi Alpha is a community of college students who love the Lord and who help further the kingdom of God together. Our main discipleship method is the small group -- we use it to help teach students who the Lord is. Small groups are a community of people who meet together to help each other in life, hang out and discuss views on religion.
We all have a common goal: to reach the community around us and make disciples.
Chi Alpha stands for Christ Ambassadors -- or to be more precise, Christou Apostoloi. This is Greek, which is translated to "Christ apostles," which is where we got our name from.
One of the Bible verses that would represent Chi Alpha is this one: "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others." 2 Timothy 2:2
Through Chi Alpha, I gained a community of friends who loved the Lord and love spending time in His presence. Their relationship with the Lord is strong and is something I never knew.
They taught me prayer is essential if I wanted a relationship with God. Going to church only on Easter was not going to help me gain a relationship with Him. Most importantly they taught me I would have to lay down old habits at the altar if I wanted to seek Him and be part of His kingdom.
Being a small group leader for the first time, I've learned several things. One of the main things I have learned is to have a firm relationship with the Lord.
If you pray and spend time with the Lord consistently every day, your small group and other people around you will notice. If you only spend time with the Lord every once in a blue moon, you will become lukewarm.
Lukewarm is saying you are in a relationship with God, but living like you don't. In Revelation 3:15-16, it talks about how the Lord would prefer for us to be hot or cold, not lukewarm.
