Being a college student everyone expects you to be homesick your freshmen year of college.
It’s the first time you truly move out and go away to school for essentially four months, have a month break, and then again for another four months. Moving out is difficult no matter what everyone says. You will be homesick; you will miss your family: that inevitable.
Yes, I was homesick my freshmen year, and yes I am homesick during my sophomore year as well. Sophomore year is definitely easier than freshmen year but it’s still hard. After being away from home for three months, it starts to hit you that you haven’t been home, you haven’t seen your parents, your siblings and even your dog.
My first year at the College I went home about four times a semester, and this year I’ve only been home once. It’s funny because I miss my bed at home when I’m at school and then I’m home and I miss my bed at school. Whenever I go home about two hours in I start to miss my friends, roommates and honestly my dorm room, which I never thought I would say. We all hit that point during the semester where we hit a wall and have an emotional breakdown, me?
Yeah, I had that two weeks ago, I needed a break from school; I missed my parents and my dog. So, it was time for me to head home for a few days. I was home for about three hours and I got a phone call from my roommate and she said, “I miss you, please come home.”
As homesick as we are being away from your roommates for more than a few hours, the separation anxiety starts to kick in. I mean you do live with them and spend every waking moment with them so naturally, it makes sense. Being homesick when you’re a freshman, sophomore, junior and honestly even senior is okay, it happens to the best of us.
