You've been away from home for a while now. And now that you are living with your parents again, you feel as if the freedom you had in college is for the most part, gone. You have a curfew again because someone stays awake until you come home at night. Sometimes when you want to go out with friends you need to get permission first or at least tell someone where you are going. It can be both endearing and sometimes annoying to have your parents care so much about you. Coming home means rules being put in place but it also means being surrounded by family. It also means going on vacation, having no stress, and soaking up the summer sunshine.
They say that home is where your mom is, and while I agree with that statement I also think that home is where ever you make memories with people you love for an extended amount of time. For me Union feels so much like home because I've grown so much in the three years I have spent here. I love that I have a hometown to always come back to, but I also love that a place that was once so foreign to me is a place I now never want to leave.
Having a home in two different places shows that you have had the privilege to grow roots and to grow yourself surrounded by various kinds of people. It was by coming to college that I began to appreciate all the things I loved about home. Home will always be the place I can come back to when I want to walk down memory lane. When I want my moms cooking. When I want be reminded of the person I used to be and how far I've come since then.
Home will always be there to welcome you back no matter how long you've been gone for. Home is constant. Home is where the heart is.
