It's the most wonderful time of the year, and also the busiest. The holiday season is in full swing now that finals are over which means that it's time for holiday parties, fun and festive traditions, winter activities, and the actual holidays. Often, this is the time of year that people wait all 365 days for. When it is looked forward to so much, it can be easy to throw yourself fully into all of the festive fun happening around you. However, when this happens, it sometimes makes taking care of yourself an afterthought.
With it being the busiest time of the year and jam-packed with activities, present shopping, and traveling, this should be the time of the year when you're taking the most time out of the day to practice self-care. It's so easy to get overwhelmed and stressed while organizing events, dinners, and trying to find the perfect gifts for all your family and friends! With all of these things happening at once and in a fairly short amount of time, getting worn down and stressed out is bound to happen unless you take some time to relax and take care of yourself. Yes, yes, it can sometimes feel weird to do this considering this time of the year is supposed to be all about giving and appreciating others. But you have to appreciate yourself, too!
Some ways to take care of yourself this holiday season:
1. Listen to some music!
Take some time to chill out with your favorite tunes. Whatever music makes you feel happy!
2. Go for a walk!
Alone, with some friends, with a dog — this is a great way to take care of yourself! Some chill out time and a good way to get some exercise!
3. Read a book!
Pick up one of your old favorites or a new book and take a few hours to sink into a different world!
4. Take a bath!
This is especially nice on those cold winter nights to defrost! Add a bath bomb or some bubbles to spice it up a bit!
5. Watch a movie or some TV!
Preferably a favorite show or movie! Something comforting that will bring a smile to your face!
6. Do something artsy!
Paint, scrapbook, draw, do some crafts — whatever you want! Maybe you'll even make a nice present for someone!
Find whatever works best for you as far as self-care goes and make sure you put some time aside to do it! You'll enjoy the holiday season way more if you keep yourself well rested and make sure the stress doesn't get to you!
