19 Healthy Snacks To Keep In Your Dorm

College is an awesome time but it's so easy to gain that Freshman 15. However, that doesn't need to happen! There are snacks you can keep in your dorm that make awesome alternatives to carb and sugar-filled junk food - and they taste just as good (if not better). Here are 19 snacks that college students can keep in their dorm that are healthy and delicious.

1. Cheese

Cheese is an awesome (AND delicious) snack for your dorm. Not only is it a great source of calcium, but it doesn't spoil quickly and there are so many ways to eat it. Try Sargento's Mozzarella String Cheese, Land o' Lakes Colby Jack Squares, or the classic Babybel rounds in the adorable red wax.

2. Hummus

Who knew mashed-up chickpeas could be so good? Hummus is one of the best healthy snacks for college students that can be kept in your dorm room. Try Sabra's Roasted Red Pepper Hummus or get some fresh at your local farmer's market.

3. Almond Nut Thins

These chips can get a little pricey but are more than worth it. Not only are the Blue Almond Nut Thins super healthy, but they have the perfect amount of flavor. Dip it in your fresh hummus for an even better taste.

4. Raw Veggies

Supermarkets now make it so much easier for college students to have healthy snacks - especially fresh veggies. You can now get already cleaned, cut, and fresh veggies straight out of a bag. Try Marketside Snow Peas and Bailey Farms Bell Peppers for a super quick and super healthy snack for your dorm.

5. Fruit

Everyone knows that fruit has so many healthy components but let's be honest... No one really wants to take the time to core and slice an apple or cut up a whole cantaloupe; no matter how healthy and nutritious it is. However, stores sell already cut and washed fruit (much like the veggies). You can get Chiquita pre-sliced and pre-peeled apple slices, cubed pineapple spears, and even mango spears.

6. Skinnypop/Smartfood Popcorn

Popcorn is such a great and classic snack for a movie night or just whenever! If you don't have a microwave to pop some popcorn, grab some gluten-free Skinnypop (in a ton of different flavors) or the classic White Cheddar Smartfood Popcorn.

7. Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is a great alternative to regular yogurt. There are many kinds of Greek yogurt including Dannon Light & Fit Greek (which comes in many flavors) and Chobani Flips. These containers are able to be stacked which makes them the perfect healthy snack for a dorm which doesn't take up a lot of room.

8. Fruit Popsicles

Dreyer's Outshine is a great brand for popsicles that are made with real fruit juice. Next time you have a sweet-tooth craving, reach for a Dreyer's Outshine popsicle in flavors like Peach, Lime, Mango, Coconut, and more. This is a healthy snack for college students that cuts out extra sugar from ice cream while still satisfying a sweet tooth.

9. Halo Top

If you're REALLY feeling like you need some ice cream, grab some Halo Top instead of reaching for some Ben and Jerry's. Halo top is not only a healthy snack to keep in your dorm, but some of the unique flavors are Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, and Soy Free.

10. Deli Meat

If you want to get in some protein but don't have a lot of room, pre-packaged deli meat is one of the best healthy snacks for college students. Grab some Hillshire Farm Deli Select Ultra Thin Black Forest Ham or Oscar Mayer Om Deli Fresh Chipotle Chicken for a healthy way to spice up your lunches.

11. Nuts

Nuts are a healthy snack for college students when you need something salty. Nuts are filled with healthy elements and are great on the go. Try Blue Diamond Roasted and Salted Almonds, Medallion Roasted and Salted Cashews, and/or Emerald Nuts Variety Pack that comes with walnuts, cashews, and almonds.

12. Craisins

Craisins, in my opinion, are completely underrated. Ocean Spray Craisins are dried cranberries (like raisins). You can put them in yogurt, in trail mix, or just eat them plain. They are on the more expensive sign, but the nutrients you get from this super health snack is worth the money.

13. Eggs

There are SO many ways you can eat eggs and almost all of them are super healthy. You can put already pre-hard boiled eggs at a grocery store if you don't have a stove top to boil them on. You can also fry them up, make egg salad, or make some super health deviled eggs. And, if you don't have enough space in a fridge for a whole carton, stores sell half a carton that is super handy for a little space. Overall, eggs are one of the healthiest snacks you can keep in your dorm room.

14. Avocado

Avocado seems to be the food of the millennial generation; and who can disagree? If you like avocados, they can be such a healthy snack for college students. Make some fresh guac, some avocado toast, or cut it up and drizzle some oil and vinegar over it for a quick and healthy snack. You can even buy pre-packaged guac courtesy of Wholly Guacamole if you don't have time to make it yourself.

15. BXBAR/KIND Bars

These super healthy granola-ish bars are amazing for college students looking for something delicious on the go. Grab one of the Kind Bars (with awesome different flavors) on your way to your morning class to start your day off right.

16. Almond Butter

Almond butter is an awesome alternative to regular peanut butter because it has a similar taste while being healthier. There are so many different choices from Sam's Choice Slow Roasted Creamy Almond Butter to Justin's Classic Almond Butter, to finding some super fresh at your local farmer's market.

17. Bulletproof Coffee Cold Brew

Every college kid needs their morning java to get them through the day. However, instead of turning to flavored creamer with a ton of sugar or the bottled Starbucks iced coffees, search for Bulletproof Coffee Cold Brew which is keto-friendly and prevents a sugar-crash later in the day. Although this may not technically be a snack, this coffee is still something healthy and delicious to keep around your dorm room.

18. Naked Juice

Naked Juice is a great liquid snack that can act as a morning meal or a mid-afternoon energy boost. Naked Juices come in many different flavors and the label tells you exactly how much fruit is in each serving. This is a healthy snack that belongs in a dorm!

19. Green Tea

Green tea has so many good qualities, one of which include a complete system detox. Stock up on some Tazo Zen Green Tea bags and drink it iced or hot for a great system restart.

No Sex And Upstate New York

A modern-day reincarnation of Carrie Bradshaw's classic column

Around the age of 12, when I was deciding whether or not to be gay, Satan appeared on my left shoulder. “Ramsssey,” he said with that telltale lisp. “Come over to our side. We have crazy partiessss.” He made a strong case, bouncing up and down on my shoulder with six-pack abs and form-fitting Calvin Kleins. An angel popped up on the other shoulder and was going to warn me about something, but Satan interrupted- “Shut up, you crusty-ass bitch!’ The angel was pretty crusty. She disappeared, and from that moment forward I was gay.

Senior Year Is Here And I Am So Not Ready For It

I was you not that long ago. I was once an eager freshman, a searching sophomore, and a know-it-all junior. Now? Now I am a risk taker. Not the type that gets you in trouble with your parents, but the type that changes your future. Senior year is exciting. A lot of awesome things come along with being the top-dog of the school, but you, right now, are building the foundation for the next 4 years that you will spend in high school. I know you've heard it all. "Get involved", "You'll regret not going to prom", "You're going to miss this". As redundant as these seem, they're true. Although I am just at the beginning of my senior year, I am realizing how many lasts I am encountering.

Why Driving Drives Me Crazy

the highways are home

1820

With Halloween quickly approaching, I have been talking to coworkers about what scares us. There are always the obvious things like clowns, spiders, heights, etc. But me? There are a number things I don't like: trusting strangers, being yelled at, being in life or death situations, parallel parking. All of these are included when you get behind the wheel of a car.
